Ryan Murphy does it again with this season's installment of American Horror Story. Any fans out there? Set in a declining carnival sideshow circa 1952, Murphy delivers another over the top fright-fest with more murder, mayhem, and splatter than last seasons Coven. Once again, Murphy explores the dynamics between the outcasts versus society with imaginative and thought provoking themes. I have to watch each episode at least twice to catch all the details.

Jessica Lange as Elsa, the freak show proprietor struggling to keep her enterprise afloat against changing times, owns this series in my book. Lesbian actress Sarah Paulson, in a dual role, as conjoined twins who hate each other had better get recognized come Emmy season. The supporting cast including Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, plus Patty LaBelle (!) and Michael Chiklis have enough acting talent to launch whole other cable network.

Thankfully Evan Peters isn't playing a zombie like last season. Looks like his character of Jimmy the Lobster Boy, might be the spiritual heart of this installment as he tries to protect this collection of misfits from the "normal" townsfolk. Not only that but he hustles his deformity much to the delight of bored housewives all over town.

My new actor crush has to be Finn Wittrock. His character, Dandy Mott, is real mess of psycho-sexual rage. A, rich, bored, over indulged sociopath in training who can sing the entire Cole Porter canon and drinks whiskey from a crystal milk bottle. Dandy finds his mentor in Twisty the Serial Killer Clown. Twisty just freaks me out, no wonder the professional clown union is upset.

Anyone else watching this season? What are your thoughts on on the plot thus far? It's off to a more gruesome start than last seasons Coven, and that's saying something.

So far, this season seems to top all the previous ones. I just hope it holds its suspense. I like the idea of not introducing all the characters in the first episode. Like ArVaGuy, I too like Dandy Mott and his mother is a stitch!

The character that Jessica Lange plays reminds me quite a bit of Marlene Deitrich - her accent and the way she carries her body across the stage while performing. And Kathy Bates is awesome as the bearded woman!
