On my recent trip to NYC, I saw this new musical based on the life of Liza's first sexaully ambiguous husband (at that time anyway), Peter Allen. Jackman was terrific. The man is a true star who can act, sing and dance. (It doesn't hurt that he takes his shirt off for a costume change either!) The rest of the cast is pretty strong as well, including Isabel Keating who does a terrifc job playing Judy Garland.

 

Unfortunately, the book, well, in a nutshell, SUCKS. It's done as though Allen is giving a concert in heaven and the attempts to interpolate his songs into his life are just plain clumsy.
