"It takes a lot of money to look so cheap". Would you wear this shirt?

An Indian textile magnate has taken "spoil yourself" to a new level.

Pankaj Parakh owns a pure gold shirt worth about £127,000 (roughly $213,000) that was custom-made for his 45th birthday, The Independent reported. The shirt, made out of 18-22 carat gold, weighs more than four kilograms (nearly nine pounds), I guess wearing it is the closest thing he'll do about losing his belly.

I'm sure he'll wear it to parties to make a grand entrance and then switch into a regular shirt. Besides being heavy, it has to be incredibly hot.

Actually, gold is a wonderful conductor of heat and electricity. Julia Child once got to try a gold (?18K ? 14K) omelet pan or skillet [i forget] and pronounced it wonderful, albeit very heavy.

So, although not "breathable", the shirt would tend to be cool as in "heat transfer away from the body."

And who knows? Wearing 9 pounds like that might help his belly.

Isn't India hot and humid? Wouldnt the heat and humidity prevent the shirt from radiating away his body heat and keep him hot and perspiring?

Actually, gold is a wonderful conductor of heat ...

Once I had to wear a tank top made out of small metal pieces for a party. Putting it on was a very "cold" feeling until it took the temperature of my own body.

Keep in mind the shirt is not made to be comfortable, but to "show off". ;)

I think it compliments the ridiculous looking bracelet he is wearing.

HA! I saw that too.

I don't like the watch either. But then I'm a known watch-phobe as I related here a few months ago. But it's more than watches. I don't really like jewelry of any type. If I ever got married ( I have to laugh when I write this as it's so improbable), I'd have to have one of those really really thin rings.

I realize that it's all in the eye of the beholder and that standards of fashion and beauty vary greatly from one culture to the next, but YIKES! Forget what country, on what planet are the Mr. T-style neck chains + all-gold shirt considered stylish?! Hey, it's his money, and as long as he earned it legally/ethically and is spending it legally/ethically, I hope his gold-upon-gold-upon-gold ensemble makes him happy. But OMG, it's about the tackiest thing I've ever seen.

BTW, I once saw a guy wearing a sleeveless T made of very fine chain mail. With tight leather pants and a rockin' bod to pull off such an outfit, the guy looked bleepin' HAWT!! He was out on the town in NYC ... hey Steven, was that you??
