Did anyone see tonight's episode? I have grown to really enjoy this show and its quirky characters. Tonight was about the small town pastor announcing to his congregation that he was gay. The jokes and punch lines spread the gambit but all in all, I liked the way it was handled and was happy with the approach the show took in dealing with this subject.

I also find it interesting that on 2 other comedies tonight, there are major gay characters. I know that this is not total acceptance of gays in our society but where tv goes, the country normally follows.

Any thoughts on the show?

Yes - we watched it and did enjoy it. Not TERIFFIC but would give it a 7.5 out of 10. I thought the dialogue at the end when the 3 brothers stood up for their gay friend/minister could have been a bit more convincing. They supported him but not as forcefully as I would have liked to hear. Too bad that there is no eye candy on the show. Couldn't at least one of them have a hunky son?

What is interesting to me is that there is almost no show on TV, be it sit-coms or dramas that does not have some gay content. All this exposure must be helpfull in gaining continuing acceptance for gays, no?

I didn't see the program but it is obvious to a certain extent gays are becoming more acceptable to mainstream America. Network television wouldn't even think of putting on a show (intentionally) that wouldn't have a chance to attract advertisers and audience share.

Naturally for better or worse programs like Queer Eye and Will & Grace have helped open a few doors. But there are still many closed doors and windows ahead.

Lastly it is somewhat interesting to note that so many people behind the scenes making the decisions in entermainment industry are gay. More and more of them are coming out and with that new found freedom they are able to exercise their power to option gay specific programs.

This wasn't TV, but in the movie Good Boy (don't ask, don't go)there was a gay couple that were one of the routine dog walking clients of the kid. They never mentioned the word gay. The guys were just there as another client. IMHO it is much more important for gays, blacks, latinos, and any other non mainstream person to be treated by the media as just part of the landscape without special treatment. It is best if everyone is treated by society as though they naturally belonged therein rather than someone special. Then we can all get on with our lives.
