I just watched a strange and wonderful little video, called the Russian Ark. It's a 96 minute odyssey filmed through the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, done in (if you can believe it) one single shot! That alone makes it worth watching, but it also is also a lovely, if hard to follow, meditation on the soul of Russia. It follows two ghosts, one a modern Russian, the other a "European" who acts as critic and guide through the past 300 years of Russian history, played out in the halls of the Hermitage.

It's a little weird, but if you're willing to suspend disbelief and just let the movie happen, it's oddly satisfying. And the ballroom scene at the end is stunning!

I also enjoyed Russian Ark very much.I saw it on a large screen in LA and am interested to see if it holds up on a smaller screen.

It is a very quirky film-not to everyones taste. The Ventura Vixen hated it and he is usually the first to scream the praises of art films.
