I seem to be getting an inordinate number of calls to my cell phone that are wrong numbers. I also get a lot of calls at odd hours like 4:00 am with no message. I leave my phone in the car so at least its not waking me up but I have 4-5 missed calls a week. Not that it matters but isn't that a bit unusual. I don't publish my number for escort work so its not that. And I don't recognize the number (and I never call it back). And no one had my number before me. Does anyone else seem to have this problem?

It's the White House. Realizing that they might not find those elusive WMDs, they're focusing their efforts on escorting now.

There IS an election year coming up, after all. ;)

Has your area undergone any area code changes? I read somewhere that people were getting wrong number calls to their cell phones because their cell phone number had previously been assigned to someone who now has a new area code. (I.E., an 609 cell phone number may have previously been assigned to someone who now has an 856 area code.)

Just my $.02.

My pager with voice mail periodically gets wrong numbers -- something that sounds like a fax machine trying to connect. These calls, too, frequently come in the middle of the night -- irritating to me because I do leave my pager on all night. Fortunately it only happens a few times per year.

Is it a relatively new number? Mine (over a year old) is a re-used number and I'm still getting calls for the old number.

Even my landline phone, over a year old, still gets calls for a business (mostly from bill collectors) that used to have my number.

Phone companies are recycling phone numbers faster than they used to. Directory services are running a couple of years behind. So the number you got last year is probably just now being published for the old owner.

My home voice mail greeting right now starts with "You have NOT reached Old Country Furniture. This has not been their number for over a year. Please find them elsewhere."

I kid you not.
