A Karpen Brothers drawing room set in excellent condition: think Mary Pickford and "Pickfair". If, as with Miss Pickford, you were well-to-do in the Edwardian era, chances are that your home was furnished by Karpen Brothers. The seller, who I think to be a student, is asking $500+/- for the three pieces: http://tuscaloosa.craigslist.org/atq/4436837173.html. In excellent condtion. it has been painted up white. A friend, not the seller, came across this furniture and sent the listing to me. I have no room for it. In my opinion, the set, is a "steal" at the asking price, and, the furniture deserves a home in which it can be appreciated. If your favorite escort has a penchant for collecting antiques, the set would make for a nice gratuity.

I am having a problem with the word exquisite ... unless some over-the-top 'old world' dressed to the nine's drag queen was lounging in it.

More of a DWR guy myself ... to each his own !

The style of the furniture, Louis XV revival, is not to my taste. The use of the word "exquisite" refers to the design and craftsmanship of the pieces: the design is fanciful and of good proportion; the frames, which are of rosewood, and fretwork were carved, crisply, by hand, and, assembled with pegs, not glue and screws. The fretwork inserts are, in themselves, remarkable in their conception and execution. That stated, five hundred dollars won't buy the cardboard furniture which is commonplace today.
