I'm not so sure this will have a good outcome for Putin. Yes, he will probably invade and be able to keep eastern Ukraine. But that leaves him with a hostile western Ukraine at his border, which will probably join NATO, and allow missles to be pointed at Putin's ass. Instead of a neutral Ukraine, he's going to be surrounded on almost all sides with hostile countries (Belarus excepted, assuming that country's strongman can stay in power).
