It's 4/20/2014 today. Yes, it's Easter, but it's also a day marijuana advocates celebrate the advances they have made in getting marijuana legalized, if not for all, for medicinal purposes. I don't use marijuana, and don't advocate it's use in general public settings, while driving, or by those not ready to handle such a potent drug.

But I have used it in the past, and yes, I inhaled. The older I got the less interest it held for me. But, I know what all the chatter is about. Munchie stores will do big business.

Why is 4/20 a day to celebrate marijuana? Many reasons are given, some say Section 420 of the California Penal Code bans it, but Wikipedia says the penal code doesn't cover drug laws. Those are found in the Health and Safety Code. Wikipedia instead gives another reason, one I had never heard before and seriously doubt:

A group of teenagers in San Rafael, California, calling themselves the Waldos[4][5][6] began using the term in connection with a plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about in autumn 1971.[6][7] Although their typical "hang-out spot was a wall outside the school," the Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time.[8] The Waldos referred to this initial plan with the phrase "4:20 Louis", but after multiple attempts to find the crop failed, the phrase evolved in form and use—shortened simply to "4:20", the teens increasingly relied on the codeword to refer to pot-smoking in general.[7] High Times, particularly the editor Steven Hager, was responsible for bringing the Waldos story to a national audience.[9] Hager called for 4:20 p.m. to be the socially accepted time of day to consume cannabis and attributed the early spread of the phrase to Grateful Dead followers, who were also linked to the city of San Rafael.[10]

Medicinal marijuana in California was legalized by Senate Bill 420. Since 4:20 a.m. has come and gone for today, think of those potheads toking up at 4:20 this afternoon, and stay off the roads!

Yes, this is so true. One escort amigo of mine is apparently "addicted" to 420. Each day on his FB page he's posted something about its being legalized nationally or perhaps in CA, and he's forever writing about his being 'high!" I sent him a FB article regarding all of the events today which are being held at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park other than the so-called celebration of "420!' I am not anti 420 but concerned about his over-involvement in smoking weed.

In a brief message to him on FB, I relayed that I want to discuss something with him the next time we're together. This will happen before we enjoy each other's company sexually. I want to know why in the hell does he feel the need to indulge almost 24/7 and to promote 420. I find his situation to be a sad one: does he do this as a manner of "escape" from reality?

Hope his mind will be clear enough to relate to me seriously! If not, our time together might be nicely aborted!

One of the things possibly overlooked in this whole smoking thing is that it has a bit of passing the peace pipe around a group of friends. I've done this and it can be a lot of fun because it's a social thing. I've been in situations where everyone is laughing their heads off over totally stupid things and then going to raid the kitchen for food. I've never been in a situation where anyone suggested doing anything violent. Basically getting off the couch to change the music seemed like the most difficult task.

Now for a completed different point of view....

I've been on medical marijuana for about 3 years now mostly for chronic pain caused by arthritis in the neck. I also have glaucoma and suffer from depression. MM not only helps with the pain but it keeps my eye pressure down and it gives me a little boost on those days that I don't even want to get out of bed. It's time to stop lumping all MM users as potheads and take a look at the medicinal uses of marijuana.

As for recreational use, I don't have a problem with that either. It is much less harmful than alcohol and as foxy pointed out, you are less likely to do anything violent or illegal. It's much better just to relax on the couch and laugh at stuff that isn't really all that funny.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for my dose

I wish they would make an odor free version. I can't stand the smell. As for it's medicinal uses, what about the THC tablet? Personally I'd prefer to take a pill than to insert a burning brand into my mouth. But I have no experience in the pill- and only two previous experiences with the weed itself- the last being - hmm I just realized- 25 years ago this month. Happy Anniversary to me!!!

My hubby can't stand the smell either so I switched to edibles. It's baked right into these chocolate bars and because they are scored I know exactly how much to take each night.

Do you mean Marinol? If so, a friend of mine suffers from nerve damage and is prescribed Marinol. He says it is a poor substitute for real marijuana. With his condition he benefits greatly from real marijuana.

I hope it's milk chocolate. While I know dark chocolate is better for you, I prefer the taste of milk chocolate.

Yes, Marinol. I wonder why that is. But I think they say that at least for cigar/cigarette smokers the ritual of lighting up is part of the joy. I wonder if it's the same with marijuana.
