He makes mention that it is due to the low risk of transmission with non-detectable viral loads and the availability of PREP Therapy (taking Truvada on a daily basis prior to having bareback sex). He also mentions that he is currently in a relationship with someone HIV positive--and using these guidelines--is going bare in his personal life. Michael also states--in response to the question, "What message are you sending to gay men with these condomless films?" His response

"I’m not a messenger. I just make movies."

I think that's a reprehensible response/attitude--but not just by Michael--by the entire non-porn/porn film industry. I just don't see how producers, directors, writers can say this with a (pardon the expression) straight face. Has a movie/play/piece of music never made you laugh, cry, feel sad? If artistic pieces can move you--how can those responsible for the work say that they don't influence behavior. I notice that when a work of art inspires people for the better, directs a young person towards a career, or etc--everyone is happy to claim credit for the contribution their art made. But let high school students shoot up a school after continually watching violent movies--then the claim is "Oh no--there is no relation to the fact that the shooters watched Helter-Skelter 100 times in the week before they committed their atrocities".

In other particulars it's even acknowledged that people can actively change their moods by changing their actions--if you are unhappy--they say try to smile or tell yourself looking in the mirror positive thoughts-on a daily basis-and even if you don't feel happy or positive to begin with--in many cases you will if you keep up positive reinforcement. SO what's going to happen to all the actors who all of a sudden start having bare sex on films--won't it also at least tempt the to have more bare sex with people who aren't their partners.

And let's say the positive actors are on HAART with undetectable viral loads--and the negative guys are all on PREP--well what happens if either party stops taking the medications on a routine basis, and the AIDS Virus mutates into a form resistant to HAART.

I am continually saddened by filmmakers making gratuitously violent films in the non porn world who claim that they should be allowed to film whatever they want for artistic freedom without regard for society at all--and that in any case their violent films can't influence behavior--or porn producers who are pandering to the bareback crowd when they could continue to be a voice for safety instead.

Yes, there have been several posts about this ... and I still find the practice sickening and irresponsible.

Yes, there are now drugs that have commuted the death sentence into long-term drug therapy ... and ASK anyone on those meds about the cost and side effects. It ain't no picnic.

For my money, I'll support Men at Play, Cockyboys, or RandyBlue ... who all use condoms. (RB has even made putting on the condoms an explicit part of several films ... hoping, I'll wager, that people can imagine finding that sexy ... rather than the opposite.

'nuff said.
