BAD NEWS FOR ANIMALS:

Every year as the Kentucky Derby approaches, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), speaks out against the cruelty of the horse racing industry. Nobody pays much attention because the trainers, owners, and supporters always deny the claims of the industry standard of inhumane treatment of these horses. I believe it was last year that PETA exposed what happens to these horses after they are of no use to the industry that is only concerned about profit; they are exported for slaughter ( http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-in-entertainment/horse-racing-2/horse-racing-industry-cruelty/retirement-slaughter/ ).

As reported in The New York Times, for the first time ever, PETA has captured cruel standard horse-racing industry practices on camera during an undercover investigation ( http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-in-entertainment/horse-racing/ )

When money is the motive, people lose sight of the welfare of animals. As time wears on, these animals are simply a commodity.

GOOD NEWS FOR ANIMALS:

After a three year campaign by PETA, China Southern Airlines announced that it will stop transporting live primates for laboratory experiments on all flights starting now. When other major airlines were approached, nearly all of them agreed to stop transporting live primates for laboratory experiments.

Air France is now the only major airline left that is willing to ship monkeys for use in experiments.

Air France continues to ship monkeys to laboratories, despite the fact that nearly every other major airline in the world has stopped sending monkeys on these horrific one-way flights—in many cases, to their deaths in notoriously cruel laboratories.
