Of course, the weather has been uncooperative of late, but I recall being in Provincetown at this time of year and enjoying it greatly.

I am going to find myself with two to three weekdays of potentially free time while I am in the Washington, D.C. / Boston area. I have determined there are any number of guest houses open and that it is possible to take a high speed ferry from Boston to the tip of the cape even "off season."

I would simply consider this a purely recreational rest period but would like to hear from thoughts about what type of weather I might expect in the first ten days of October. I would easily bike ride and find other ways to occupy myself but I would enjoy some good weather if possible. The guest houses are not being very cooperative with this information.

I have been to P town in earlier October and the weather was glorious. Bright, sunny, crisp and clear - cool but we've all got sweaters, right? And the lack of straight tourists was also a plus.

Franco, great idea! Provincetown is perfect for bike riding in October. There is a well-paved bike path run by the National Parks which goes to both beachs, Race Point and Herring Cove (the gay beach), Beech Forest and through the sand dunes. Very pretty ride. You can rent a bike on Commercial Street near the docks.

Suggestion: Make sure u get a 10-speed (or higher). The road thru the dunes is very hilly. I remember having to finish walking to the top of a hill with a 3-speed bike. October is also a nice month to just walk along the beech. Depending on the day, this can be chilly but invigorating. The foliage on the Cape isn't in full bloom until late October.

There is a brochure put out by the gay chamber of commerce with listings of restaurants, places to stay, and a map. If you want, contact me and I may still have their web site or phone if I didn't throw it all out when I moved.

Many of us who live in New England think that September and early October are the best weeks of the year. There's this thing called Indian Summer that happens most years where, after some cool, crispy days, the weather gets very warm again and really beautiful. That, and the fact that all of the tourists have left, makes for primo vacation days. Have a great time.

The Web Site for the Gay Business Guild in Provincetown is:

http://www.ptown.org

There is an 800 number listed on the site. Call them and ask them to send you whatever brochures they have on P-town. There may be information in these brochures that will be of some help in making your stay more enjoyable.

As the previous reply stated, September and October are two of the nicest months on the Cape. All the kids have gone back to school, and the place is more peaceful.

My likely dates will be before the 13th of October, so I was aware of the high speed ferry deadline. Thank you.

I also have been to Provincetown in the past, just never at this time of year. I do agree it should be nice to experience without the sheer numbers of people who can be there in the summer.

Thank you all for your comments.

September, early Oct in P-town are absolutely delightful for all the reasons mentioned above. If you are so inclined, you can even sunbath in the nude area of Herring Cove...Restaurants are always available, no crowds and it just is EVERYTHING that the summer months can't supply because of the crowds. You'll really enjoy it.
