A few weeks ago I was possibly exposed to HIV when I engaged in a bareback encounter with an escort. I was the top, and after the thrill of it all, the reality of what I did set in and I was sick with worry about possible exposure to HIV. On Friday I had the PCR DNA test which, according to the clinician, actually checks for HIV and not just the antibodies. You must wait at least 14 day after possible exposure before having the PCR test. Yesterday, I was notified that the test came back negative. I was assured that I don't need to retest with the ELISA test or obtain another PCR DNA unless I engage in unsafe behavior again. The test was $85.00 and the results came back in a day. It was well worth the money. If anyone is worried about possible exposure and does not want to go through 3 to 6 month or worrying and waiting, the PCR test may be your answer.
