Sweet Bob...

I first met David in 2008 and he became a very frequent visitor. So, of course, from the get go, I heard all about handsome Bob. After one of David's trips out here, he sent me a dvd of his other job, of him taking his other "clients" to the beach, loading them all up in his truck. All six of them, with Pocket in the front (because he was a bit of a problem child and needed special attention) and the rest in the back seats with Bob in charge. I was amazed at the way that they all responded to David and the way that he talked to them and controlled them all with just his voice. They literally walked in a single file line (Bob in front, of course) all the way down to the beach. Now, once there, David whistled and it was on. Literally, every dog for himself. They were all over that place, up and down the beach, in the water, on the rocks, chasing each other. Young and healthy and having the time of their lives.

And Bob, most of all. Just a big puppy, chasing the waves out and barking at them as they returned. Sweet, fearless Bob, not afraid of anything.

After a while, when it was time to go, David whistled again and here they all came racing back. All except Bob. He had gone farther down the beach. So David whistled again and called his name and that was all it took. Bob's ears pricked up and he was charging back to David, back to the man he worshipped, back to Daddy.

It was an honor and a privilege to witness the absolute devotion between them. A connection that was real and deep, life changing for them both and ever lasting. Anyone who knows David knows without a doubt that Bob was his heart, his touchstone, his baby and his home. They had been through it all together, the struggles, the victories, the changes, the challenges and now, sadly, this last painful part.

I know one thing. Bob was cherished all his life, by David and by all the people that care for David. And that's alot of people. Bob had more Facebook friends than I do.

They were a blessing to each other, for sure.

The love of a pet is one of life's most uplifting things... loving the pet, even more. I understand the depth of your loss, David.

Please accept my condolences.
