A general apology

I seem to have made an embarrassing discovery today. I was looking around to see if I had received a thank-you note from Daddy for a Christmas donation I made a couple of weeks ago. I didn't find it, but I did find 80 unread messages that people have been sending me, but I didn't know to look. Some were heartfelt medical stories that I never had read, and so on. I guess I know now to look for messages, and I apologize to the many that I have ignored through the years (some no longer with us, I'm afraid). I also have "friend requests" and I don't know what that means. What does accepting a friend request entail?

As far as I know a friend request just means that the person will show up on your friend list when people view your profile.

 

When I get messages, the forum displays a popup showing it, and the 'notifications' icon at the upper right will show how many unread messages I have. I don't know if that is affected by whether the senders are your friends or not, I'm pretty sure I have received that notification when I get messages from members who are not on my friends list.
