Incredible restaurant on Belmont in Chicago. Great food. Was to close August 2012, but I can neith confirm nor deny this based on Internet surfing.

Anyone know? It's on my bucket list for a repeat.

It was on Armitage and, yes, it has closed.

Trotter was a super chef before they had super chefs. I was at this then famous place 20 years ago. What is the history of this then Chicago icon's closing?

It is a long story.... Best to probably search Chicago Tribune archives on line for the full story if you are really interested. Kind of sad, actually.

According to both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times as well as a story on NPR's Marketplace, he considered closing the restaurant for several years. It was still profitable, but he wanted to travel and get a Master's degree.

Here's the Sun-Times story:

I was surprised he decided to close his restaurant and Trotter's to go. I went to his restaurant for my birthday 4 years ago. He wasn't in the kitchen that evening, but his mom kindly took me on a tour of the place. I'll just remember it as the most expensive meal I ever ate, but overall, I was kind of disappointed.

Its gone and so has he. Autopsy revealed no obvious reasons for his death; now awaiting toxicology results.

He had an inoperable brain aneurysm. Despite being advised to avoid flying (due to the pressure), he was recently in Jackson Hole.
