San Diego travels...

My Fall vacation this year will be San Diego CA! I have never been there and exploring the city's website for tourism has a few good ideas, but it is a lot to consider, so I come here.

Could anyone tell me the few places I should not miss. I will be there for 5 days and want to make the most of this trip as I will traveling alone. My hotel is downtown so I am in a central location. Please give me your best ideas for San Diego.

Great choice for a vacation! Once you arrive (or beforehand) check out the San Diego Reader and some of the LGBT publications for events of interest. Many of the museums are located in Balboa Park, and that is a wonderful place to spend time wandering around. Spend some time in Hillcrest, too; there are many restaurants and shops there; there are other areas to explore, depending upon your interests.

And of course, the world famous San Diego Zoo is, for me, a must see.

If you are mobile, after exploring San Diego and touring a naval vessel (I find them fascinating)....might I suggest a quick trip north to Laguna for an afternoon lunch and a tour of the many eclectic art galleries along the ocean.

another great place is Coronado island. you can drive or take a ferry boat across. Orange ave is the main drag which lots of shops, restaurants, and a wine bar and there is the Coronado Del Mar hotel which is a historic place with great view.

There is an outdoor pipe organ in Bakboa Park on which recitals are plated on Sunday. Great fun if you like pipe organ music. The Spreckels pipe organ.

The former aircraft carrier USS Midway is moored near the downtown hotel area and is a fascinating tourist attraction to spend several hours at. Also +1 on the wonderful San Diego Zoo at Balboa Park.
