I saw a special on these guys not long ago. I am glad to see that things are working out for them. It was a tragedy what the bureaucracy in this country had put these guys through. They were literally caught in a tangled web of laws and red tape. Disgusting.... Thanks for posting BC.

If you made this post cynically because you think that the couple in the story fits the "russian bride" stereotype, I find that offensive.

(And if that wasn't your intent, I apologize.)

One of my best friends has been going through AGONY for years, because his partner of more than 10 years is from a European country that does legally recognize gay unions, and because of problems with green cards, residency, etc. here, they were afraid that they were going to have to leave the home, friendship network, and professional network they've built together here over a decade in order to stay together.

Now they can get married here, and residency will be granted.

This is not something to joke about, or to compare with sham marriages staged for immigration purposes.

It is a wonderful, much-awaited benefit for international couples.

Shadowcat,

The "Russian Bride" thread was cynical; mine was not. I should have written, "A 'Russian Bride Syndrome,' in

contrast, has been posted separately.

I belong to, and contribute to, IMMIGRATION EQUALITY, which is staffed by wonderful attorneys. One

of them gave me terrific advice which I needed for my own situation.

So let me apologize for a "lazy writing" syndrome. I should have been clearer,

and you are absolutely right on all counts.
