Match.com, PoF, OKCupid, or any gay-only dating sites I'm not aware of? I am, and I'm just curious about how popular this is among you guys? (I'm talking about sites where people usually exchange several emails before meeting, so I left out the purely mobile apps like Grindr and Taggit.)

I got talked into joining a couple of online dating sites by friends about two years ago. Simply put, it was a disaster. The problem was, much like hiring escorts, no one looked like their posted picture. After emails were exhanged and some small chat, I always met for coffee first thing in the morning. To be fair, all the guys I met were actually very nice. I was just not physically attracted to them. I think I gave up after meeting a half a dozen or so guys.

That being said, online dating can work. I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks out in 'Cali' were one of my best friends met her soul mate through 'Match.com'....

A friend of mine also met his partner of 7 years on Match.com. It was a good site for him as he tried it to get back into the social scene 1 year after his partner died. He met a lot of nice people for dinners, movies, etc. Some were actually looking for the old fashioned dating scene and some wanted sex. Of course he met a few losers too but overall it was a good experience.

In reading Travis's post, I want to correct my previous statement of saying that it was a 'disaster'...that is not entirely true. It was a disaster in the sense that I did not find the sexual partner that I was hoping for, but many of the guys were very nice, and like Travis mentions that his friend had several nice dinners and movie dates, I did as well. I did get the impression that these guys were looking for a relationship, and that part was refreshing.
