I need some advice from some experienced travelers. I doubt there are any good options, but I thought I'd try. I bought tickets to Via Rail's Candian Train from Toronto to Vancouver. The train leaves 10 pm on February 9th. The problem assuming Via doesn't cancel the train due to snow. I travelled to NYC as an intermediate stopping place. I have a reservation on February 9th to fly from LaGuardia to Toronto at around 1 PM. Any suggestions for helping me get to Canada.

Thanks,

Gman

i'd call the train first ahead of time to ensure whether they are cancelling or not. If not, your only option for getting there may be to hitchhike on one of these:

Horny... I like the way that you think... even though I am sure that Tristan's comments were totally innocent... and pure... as the driven snow...

Incidentally, I was supposed to fly out from the Northeast to a much warmer climate tomorrow... I re-booked for Monday in the hopes that things will be more or less back to normal by then.

Dispatch from Toronto

Hey Gman,

The forecast says Toronto is expecting 20cm (8") of snow by tonight (Feb.8). I think this may be a bit conservative.

It is currently -18 Celsius (0 Fahrenheit) with the windchill. It is a near 'white out' right now, with hardly anybody out or anything moving.

I am scheduled to catch an Eastbound train tomorrow. They were still running nearly on time this morning, but I'll be checking again before I leave home.

I had a look for the departure of your train (train #1) tomorrow & found the following advisory:

Travel Advisory! VIA service interrupted due to a CN freight train derailment at Biggar. Train 1 that left Toronto on February 5, will encounter an important delay. For more information, please contact our telephone sales office at 1 888 VIA-RAIL (888 842-7245), TTY 800-268-9503 (hearing impaired). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

So, it seems there is an additional issue to consider with your trip. If you do choose to (and succeed in) making your way to Toronto and get delayed here, feel free to get in touch!
