Well, enjoy it while you can because it doesn't look like Smash is going to be around. Despite massive hype, it returned to a 1.1 rating among adults, down 71% from last season. Worse still, the second half hour of the show had a decline beyond even that meaning people watched the first half and turned it off ....

Methinks they waited too long (almost a year) to bring the show back. A shame, it had great promise.

It should be mentioned that last season's first show followed the hit "The Voice." But, it's difficult to defend the second hour of the two-hour show last night. Karen's enthusiasm for the young song writing team from the bar was over the top, and lasted too long. At least Karen was having some fun as opposed to the other main characters. But, I hope it gets better, although it is difficult to image the ratings getting much better...sadly.

And I have to say I wasn't really impressed with the songs. I had heard some hype about the Joe Iconis "Broadway, Here I Come" song, but I really didn't think it was all that special.

But the two new writer characters (Jeremy Jordan and Andy Mientus) are nice eye candy. ;-)

I'm very sorry to see Brian d'Arcy James go. I have always loved his work.

so i guess I was the only one who saw megan hilty (ivy) sing her butt off on the moving the line song? she was incredible. smash is so much more than eye candy. her talent is undeniable.

it's another reason why I hate that they centered the show around someone who has no busienss being in a broadway show. 'karen' is weak

To clarify, when I said I wasn't impressed with the songs, I meant specifically the ones by the character Jeremy Jordan is playing (the young songwriter that Karen is interested in), written (at least in part, I think) by Joe Iconis (who has written some good material before this). "They Just Keep Moving The Line" is a Shaiman/Wittman song - I have never had a problem with their material. ;-)

I like Megan Hilty on Smash. But, I was one of the few who did not like her much in "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds" last spring when she played the lead at Encores! at City Center in New York. Megan Hilty is super talented, but, at least in "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds," she did not project Marilyn's vulnerability.

As I posted on the other thread about SMASH, there is an incredible song coming up in Episode 4 A major-league, old-school power ballad from Shaiman and Wittman. "I Can't Go On". And Jennifer Hudson knocks it out of the park. At least the show should make it through the season, but if it doesn't get better, probably not next year. Too many stars paid too much money to throw it away.

doubt it will tank. they have too much money in it. wait and see.

It's already "tanked." It's simply a question of whether NBC will have the balls to take it off the air. Considering they're all about money, I think they will. It may finish it's short, abreviated season, but I can't imagine it comes back next season.

Well NBC shows in general are not doing well in the ratings. At this point, the network does not have a ready supply of replacement programs. I doubt Smash will be back next season. Because it is broadcast on NBC, Smash has a small chance for a third season. But, the rating have to get at least marginally better.
