Can anyone post reviews of the various sex clubs in the San francisco area?

I am planning a trip to SF in May. Sources tell me that most clubs in SF (sex clubs and gay bathhouses) have been shut down . Those that esixt have strict rules barring most activities.

The only bathhouse in the area is Berkeley Club Bath? Can anyone here shed some light .! Is this club busy? crowd? size of club?

The only bathhouses are Steamworks in Berkeley and the Water Garden in San Jose. Of the two I remember Steamworks as being busier and with an overall more conducive atmosphere to sex (the Water Garden was more like a motel with really tiny rooms, kind of antiseptic in feeling, though they did have an outdoor pool and hot tub). I haven't been in a few years, though, so things could have changed.

 

San Francisco does have a number of sex clubs (in which there are no private spaces). The one with generally the biggest crowd and cutest boys (and again, this is dated information) is Power Exchange (on Otis just off South Van Ness and Mission). There people walk around in their street clothes and they have various themed play spaces; the usual construction motif, "forests," etc. The closest you come to real privacy is if you hook up in one of the teepees. Unfortunately they do not have showers, so if you're trying to be hygenic you have to wash your dick in the sink. It's usually open quite late -- I think till 4 or 6am.

 

Also south of Market are Blow Buddies (I think 5th or 6th and Harrison?) and Mack Folsom Prison (Folsom St. btwn 9th and 10th). Blow Buddies, I think, does not allow fucking (I went there once or twice YEARS ago so this may be false) and is heavy on the glory holes. Mack has a black-and-steel minimalist prison motif. I took a client there once and tied up him up (at his request, I hasten to add). Other than that I've only been there once or twice and don't remember ever seeing it real busy. Mack I know has lockers where you can check your clothes; I don't remember what you do at Blow Buddies.

 

On the edge of the Castro, conveniently located across the street from Safeway at Market and Church Streets, is Eros, "the Center for Safe Sex Education," in case you like your sex clubs politically correct. They have a lounge area with magazines, a steamroom and sauna, and play spaces with various nooks and crannies. You check your clothes and wear a towel. The floor gets sticky, but one big, big plus is that they have showers. Sex clubs in San Francisco are major epicenters of the latest syphilis outbreak and possibly of the drug-resistant staph infection that's going around, so I'm a big believer in soap and water between each trick. (Now that I'm an escort I just don't go to them; they're just not worth the risk of picking something up and passing it to a client.)

 

All things considered, I'd recommend the trip to Berekely and paying a little more to do a proper bathhouse experience. It's bigger and more impressive than the sex clubs, you can rent a room to retreat to (and, if you so desire, to nap in between romps), they have showers and I've found people are much friendlier in bathhouses than in sex clubs, where minimal-to-no talking is the norm.

I have been to the Steamworks, Watergarden , Folsom Prison, Blow Buddies, Powerhouse and Eros. Steamworks is the BEST venue is you are looking for guys who are there for a hot time. There is a good mix of men and the facility has been remodeled in the last year and well maintained. There is a nice jacuzzi, shower facility and steam room where the action can be very intense.
