I have noticed that Lucy is often discussed on gay sites, more than such obvious gay icons as Garland, Streisand and Madonna. Two gay men have written books about their friendships with her in Lucy's last years.

Now CBS is doing a bio on Lucy on May 4 by the same people who did the Garland bio "Me and My Shadows," which received very good reviews and word of mouth.

I never considered Ball to be a gay icon, but must be wrong. Perhaps the "I Love Lucy" reruns have kept her in the public eye, so that every gay man in American has watched at least one episode.

IMNHO, Lucy & Vivian Vance were the greatest comedy team ever. When Viv retired, Lucy tried to replace her with Ann Southern, Mary Jane Croft (aka "Betty Ramsey"), Carol Burnett, and even Ruth Buzzi, but no one could ever have the chemistry that those two had.

>our state lottery (PA) came out

>with six scratch off tickets of her

Is it like Lucky Bucks? Will you have to be laundered with extra starch to win? :+ (only a true Lucy fan will get that one)

DAMN we are showing our age Rick, I remember well

When in doubt I whip it out:+

I was referring mostly to http://www.datalounge.com

There is always some kind of Lucy thread, presently it is favorite "I Love Lucy" episodes with around 400 responses so far. (Do a search for "I Love Lucy"). Just about every other Lucy-related subject has been discussed, including how much "Here's Lucy" sucked. Guys over on that site know the most obscure trivial about all Lucy's TV shows and movies

The Judy Garland bio was great!! It is one of the best things I've ever seen done on tv. I hope this one is even half as good. Anyone know who they picked to play hot, handsome, sexy Desi Arnaz? It would be hard to top :) the original!

I would vote for Benjamin Bratt for that role!

Lucy as gay icon? R u kidding? You've obviously never been in West Hollywood on Halloween where there's a small army of Lucy's!

As for the Garland biopic, I thought Judy Davis really became Garland, but the picture itself was rather ordinary, suffering from the restrictions imposed by commercial television. I felt the same way about TNT's James Dean. Both subjects would have been better served on a pay cable such as HBO or Showtime.

"Lucy" will air on CBS next Sunday from 8PM to 11PM. It apparently centers on Lucy and Desi, especially their early day together. Young Desi Arnaz was very hot, no doubt about it, but so was Ball. I even liked Desi Arnaz, Jr.

TV shows, like this, are very difficult to pull off, because the central characters are so well known to the public. "Me and My Shadows" is about as good as it gets, because of Judy Davis but the story has to fit into 2, 3 or 4 hours so liberties are always taken with the story. I watched "Me and My Shadws" once on DVD and will probably never watch it again.

(Of course, I know that Lucy is a gay icon. A good way to start a discusssion is to ask a question.)
