Just curious about the prevalence of agencies when it comes to escorting for men and women.

It seems that there are tons of agencies for female escorts and barely any for men.

Im just curious as to the reason.

I think technology (internet, iphone, cellphone, etc) have made agencies irrelevant.

Besides if you are a Prosecutor isn't it better to go after tax evasion for an Agency and not a working-boy?

I think a good agency adds value and can make the hiring process easier (e.g., last time I was in NY, almost half of the guys I tried to contact either didn't respond or didn't show up after in itially expressing interest.)

But they have been overshadowed by the proliferation of ads on the internet, etc., and not everyone sees their potential value.

Due to personal safety concerns, many women prefer to have someone pre-screen their clients and want someone to know their whereabouts or be on hand in case anything goes wrong. Men generally have fewer personal safety concerns.

With this economy and so much competition in big cities, it's amazing how lazy some guys are...

I agree with you!

Girls could also be harassed by the police, it is well-known that in Middle America cops hire prostitutes, pay them, fuck them, and arrest when they are done...

Besides, better an agency and not a pimp.

Both Mark, and Curtis, are correct. I have always preferred to go through an agency whenever possible for two reasons. First of all, it saves time. Secondly, if you are upfront as respects your interests and desires, you will usually be sent a compatible escort who knows what you want and expect. The downside, is economic, and this is why I think there are fewer agencise around. By the time you have paid the fee, and tipped the guy for a good job, you have perhaps spent far more than if you had contacted sthe escort involved individually, and a lot of people do not now have the financial resouces to do that.

I have always been scared to use an agency. It's not that I wouldn't want to, but its more fear based. To me agency = business = detailed records and record keeping = subpoenas and law enforcement = me more likely to be arrested.

I didn't say it was a rational fear. I also don't find what value I am receiving for the cost, but I do see value in the escort wanting to go this route. Would that value be worth the reduced compensation to the escort, only the escort himself could decide this on an individual basis.
