An enterprising escort of my acquaintance has solicited me for capital in "recycling" antique smoking stands for use as "luxe" MaryJane Smoking Tables; he is of the opinion, the tables will be in "big demand" in California and Colorado as interior decoration with "utility".

It has been my experience that "Pot smokers" don't decorate, nor would if they could.

I think he might be on to something. With the decline of tobacco smoking, these pieces of Americana have largely disappeared. Any that survive are probably resting unused up in the attic somewhere.

Bigvalboy's point is a good one, for now, as today's pot smokers are not typically out in the open about their proclivities. But tomorrow may bring a different culture. Already, some of the toniest Colorado resorts are considering their response to marijuana tourism, and the 'smoking room' of tomorrow may be as alluring as the cocktail lounge of today.

You may not see an immediate return on your investment but, if if the idea does take off, there probably won't be a better time to buy up and refurbish these delightful old relics. And who better to sponsor the effort than another delightful old relic? (In fact, please feel free to so name your budding enterprise. )

If the smoking jacket returns to fashion, I will be lacking as I loaned my last one to the escort known as Luca Rugge as a prop for his photo shoot, and, after a year, more or less, he has not returned it to me.

How tiresome of him.

Do keep a light on, however, as I once lent out my last pair of driving gloves and, just as I had despaired of ever seeing them again, back they came. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-rolleyes007.gif
