What to do with a six hours connection in Bangkok?

I'm landing at 18:30 Sunday evening, and taking off six hours later. This leaves me with 3-4 hours. What would you recommend?

 

Is "Hero" still THE place? (I was there two years ago.) What are the current rates?

Any other/better options?

How much is the taxi to the city? How much time?

Wow 12is12, six hours is not much time. By the time you get off the plane and through customs, and I am not sure if luggage is checked through, and then you have to get back to the airport for the outbound flight. Well I just don't have any suggestions really. Like you mentioned you have 3 maybe 4 hours tops. I am a bit overly cautious when I travel over seas, so I would probably stay put. I have never spent time in Bangkok. It is just too crazy for me, I always leave immediately for Pattaya or Phuket, so if you are looking for a quicky...my only suggestion would search some gay travel sites that specialize in SE Asia and see what they suggest. The traffic from the airport to one's hotel is usually horrendous during the day and at times late at night; during the early morning it's relatively tame.

I've traveled during both times of day mentioned in the preceding and would suggest as bigvalboy suggested: "stay put."

 

Now if you could get a room at one of the hotels at the airport and be assured that your contact would be on time at that hotel and waiting for you,

that would be ideal! But in any case, I would not chance it based on what the two of us wrote!

I agree that it isn't enough time to go in to the city to get a massage at Hero for example. 2 of your 3-4 hours would be spent in a cab. I do think that the idea of getting an airport hotel and having an escort pre-arranged would be ideal. http://www.gayromeo.com has many listings. Be aware that many of the guys that might look like independents are actually agencies, not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Just do a little research first.

I live in Bangkok roughly six months of the year, so I have very much an "every day" familiarity with the place... Clearing immigration at the airport can be problematic at times (long and ill-managed lines), but at that time the taxi ride into central Bangkok should be quick. (Be sure to tell the taxi driver to go by the toll road and be prepared to shell out the cash for the toll booths, roughly $3US.) Were I you, I would head to Soi Twilight (off Surawong), and hang out in one of the terraced bars and just see what happens. You can eat, and there are numerous bars, clubs and massage places on that short street. Some do not really get going until later in the night, but there is activity early to mid evening as well.

 

Keep an eye on the time... a stressful trip back to the airport is NOT the way to do it! (Message me directly if you have more specific questions!)

Thank you all, but as my initial question shows - I'm with the minority recommendation on this. The idea of "staying put" for six hours in an airport while 50 minutes away there're scores of sexy boys waiting for me is...almost sacrilege!

On a SUNDAY evening? I think you most of guys are way too pessimistic. Should definitely be doable. I am guessing you aren't going to be dealing with checked bags since this is basically just a layover, right? I think Hero is as good an idea as any. It will be a quickie though. Are you flying economy or up front? If you're in business or first you may be able to get through fast track immigration depending on the airline.

 

Also depending on your ticket you might end up having to pay the departure tax on your way back through the airport if you go landside. Is it just a connection or are you flying on two separate tickets?

 

Your late night return to the airport should also be a fairly quick trip out of town. It will definitely be an adventure. Could potentially be stressful too depending on the variables. But since you have a definite goal in mind (massage at Hero) I think you are better off than if you just had some open-ended should I go into town and just wander around.
