For those of you who, for whatever reasons, buy rather than rent porn, what do you do with them after you've viewed them several times? Are there any online venues for selling/buying used gay porn?

Wonder if we could talk Hoo in to setting up a forum for that here? At one time, there was a thriving market for used adult tapes and DVDs on Ebay, but last I looked, I couldn't find it.

Hoo?

The "older gays" association here in S.F. also collects used porn for a fund-raising garage sale of "adult items"! The group recently changed it's name, but you should be able to locate it by contacting the S.F. gay community center. . . There are also some shops in S.F. that buy used porn. One is located on 18th, near Castro, just past the BofA. It's upstairs and has a sign that says they buy porn.

If you're not in the Bay Area, maybe some group or shop in your area does the same thing.

For a few years-- I have been selling my vids to THE MAGAZINE on Lakin Street in San Francisco. The only tremendous drawback here is that the fee paid to me is rather miniscule.

If one pays almost $60.00 for one vid; then I think a fee in double figures should be provided to the seller.

Currently, I have some vids which I particularly do NOT like although they received some torrid reviews; I would like to resale but not for under $10 - $15 dollars-- I'd really prefer $20 to $25 since I paid over $50.

My first reaction is why buy a video at $60 unless you like it enough to keep it longer and watch it more times? With that said, if you can get $20 for a $60 video, consider yourself lucky. I would think that DVDs would get a better price because they are less vulnerable to wear and damage. The store doesn't have to worry about not finding defects that would cause a customer to try to return it. Remember that the retailer will probably price the used video at $20 -$30 (rough guess). So if the store gives you $20 or more, that gives them a narrow profit.

Finally, most stores that sell gay vids will usually buy used ones. I know there is a bookstore in Boston which buys them. I also believe Catalogue X in Fort Lauderdale buys them. I would assume that there is at least one store in any larger metro area that buys used vids.

I always thought was bit foolish to buy videos or DVD that cost $60 and up. Better just to rent the title, and copy it onto a blank video. I don't do that, as it is illegal, but hear many people do that.

Renting works if you're located in a market where there's a decent selection of vids for rent. Unforunately, I'm not. x(

porn tapes, both gay and straight, are sold on ebay, but you have to go into the adult section, which you have to register for to prove you are of age. since this requirement the bids on most tapes don't go nearly as high as they did before this requirement.

Of course, renting works; I'd definitely prefer to do this if I were in an area that had the most recent as well as not so current gay vids/DVDs. Even my vids which are gay-themed do not fetch much payback at my local vid store that has a section called "Alternative" containing titles such as THE SUM OF US, MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE, etc. The price per vid is a measly four dollars. I'd rather donate them...

Tristan you are pretty right on the mark with your comments. I will just add selling used videos/DVDs are not unlike selling used CDs. Most stores will give you between 1-5 dollars max. New they cost 15.99 so you can see they don't hold much value. Though buying a used CD (like purchasing a used adult product) can be a great bargin as the mark up is usually just 2-4 dollars :) .

I sell mine and buy mine via Ebay. I purchase at good prices, and resell them at usually almost the same I paid for them. It's better than renting.
