I guess Prince William didn't learn from his mother's death that being a subject of the paparazzi is his (not too difficult) job. Does he really still think that his life is as private as anyone else's? If that's what he still believes, I think he's in for more trouble... Prince William, you live a life of luxury. You don't have to work your fingers to the bone, but you do have to accept a lack of privacy. Ignore reality at your peril.

With all due respect: may I ask what the point of posting this photo on this Forum was? I understand your position concerning Prince William's relationship(for lack of a better word) with the papparazzi, and I believe it could have been made without showing the Duchess of Cambridge topless. She had a choice when it came to marrying into the Royal Family and having to accept the limits of a "private life" when she did so, the Prince did not. The Duchess has had much less time to adjust to living in a fish bowl than the Prince and perhaps this episode, as painful as it is, is part of that learning curve.

There are different forms of celebrity---perhaps the vultures of "gotcha" journalism could better spend their time snooping on those who just cannot get enough publicity, be it good or bad and leave others alone. Members of the Royal Family have an obligation to make public appearances, not only in the UK but in Commonwealth nations around the world---it is a large part of their role. For anyone who thinks it is an easy job being in the public eye 24/7, try it for 60 years as HM Queen Elizabeth II has done.

Personally I think that it's unbelievable that in 2012 someone can be interested in reading an article about someone's (ok, ok, from the British Royal family...) tits showed off.

Gedankenexperiment:

I disagree that their job is to provide fodder for the papparazzi. As long as their private life does not impact their public responsibilities, it should remain private, in my opinion.

Seriously? Do you really believe this crap? The lack of privacy in our society in general has become ridiculous. I wish it were 1503 and then they could have had these photogs drawn and quartered and put their heads on pikes in the village square. That's what they deserve.

I may be in a silent minority here, but having witnessed the antics of papparazzi over the years both in Europe and the U.S., I would not feel an ounce of angst if they were all drawn and quartered (but would not want to have to look on their heads on pikes in any village square as the majority are not worth looking at).

Just because somebody else was evil, doesn't give you right to be evil in return... People can go elsewhere for that type of trash...

It is a "paid position", employment, if you will, and, thereby, in my opinion, a "royal" should live up to the "job description" or he or she should look for "work" suitable to his ability.

Kindly show us this job description to which you refer.

Today (Friday September 21st) is the first time I have visited this thread since I replied to the original post. First, I was surprised to see that the photo of the Duchess was no longer included and I am pleased that it has disappeared. I would be interested to know who removed it and their ratonale. Whoever did it, Thank You.

Secondly, I was interested to read about the "job description" "employment" aspect of being part of the British Royal Family. The "Firm" as the Family calls it has definite expectatios of ALL members of the Royal Family, the British public also has its view and the rest of the world has interest in what the Royal Family does, looks like, etc. HM the Queen has resposibilities, constitutional, ceremonial and traditional which none of the others have. Prince Charles as the heir apparent is also expected to adhere to a more demanding role than the others and so on. Since birth, Prince William has had the burden (or privilege) of knowing for the rest of his life (barring abdication) that he will be the future sovereign, with all that entails.

In 1936 when Edward VIII insisted on marrying a twice-divorced woman, he was forced to abdicate. Queen Elizabeth's father George VI became the monarch and the Family has had very strong feelings about what is best to ensure that the monarchy survives. When Prince Charles and Diana were going through their marital problems, it was a crisis not just for the family(including Princes William and Harry) but for the insitution of the monarchy. Since Prince Charles has not only divorced his wife (Diana) but also re-married, it will be interesting to see what happens when he finally (if he does) ascends the throne.

Whatever your opinion of the place of monarchy in the 21st century, the royals have jobs to do. Only the nations where the monarchy exists can determine whether the insitution will continue. The rest of us can only watch and perhaps wonder???

Sorry about the long-winded history lesson, and I know there are many who don't give a warm spit about any of this :))
