I am going to be in Montreal at the end of this month. Besides the Male strip clubs what are your top five things you feel is a must see and do?

Mine are:

Going to the top of Mount Royal.

Old Montreal

Smoke meats at Schwartz's Deli

Watching the street performers

Sitting in Notre-Dame Basilica listening to the organ practice

I thought it would have been the TOTALLY nude male strippers, hands down !

JJ, you have to do something in the mornings.. Campus doesn't open until 3pm.. and the clubs all close at 3am..so that means 12 hours without strip clubs. Of course, you can plan some "takeout" service in between those hours.

Just a heads up on Schwartz's.. if at all possible, avoid peak times or else you will be experiencing a long wait...They have a "new" take out shop next door to the original location, but even that has a long line during peak times, although it moves faster than the line for the sit down location. If Cirque du Soleil is in town, try to get tickets. Montreal is the home for the Cirque company and many times they test out new shows there before taking them on the road. The Botanical Garden is another great day event. They have many different exhibits thru out the year that are beautiful.

I can't order my list, nor come up with a top 5. But here are some additions which haven't been mentioned yet:

  • a hot bagel or three (with or without lox/cream cheese) at Fairmount Bagels
  • breakfast at La Premiere Moisson at the Atwater Market, then walk into the Old Port along the Lachine canal
  • the Atwater market itself (smaller and more manageable than Jean-Talon and closer to where you're likely to be staying)
  • buy a take-out lunch at the food court beneath the Hyatt, then eat outdoors in the Place des Arts watching the street performers. Walk all the way down Ste. Catherine from Place des Arts to the Village
  • the Contemporary Arts Museum
  • wander around the Plateau (e.g. walk up St. Denis from the Sherbrooke station, then head east on Blvd. Mont Royal)

Don't forget to report back! Have fun!

Montreal in the morning.

Go for a jog up Mount Royal...any season.

Buy the Montreal Gazette. Great writing from an anglo point of view...and the LA Times and NY Times crosswords.

Then breakfast at Reubens. I've never been in a city where on Sunday morning the firetrucks are parked outside while their

crews chow down joined by cops and city workers. Montreal smoked meat for breakfast!

Drop into any of the museums for an hour or two. The Canadian Centre for Architecture (http://www.cca.qc.ca/en) is close to Reubens and worth a stop.

Then the afternoon starts....

Montreal is amazing. My top 5 would be....

Walk Old Town Montreal

Shop the Underground City

River boat cruise on the Saint-Lawrence/dinner cruise

Walk Mount Royal

Montreal Museum of Fine Art

It's a really a nice city. Unfortunately you will have missed the summer-long shutdown of Ste Catharine Street in the gay village. All of the restaurants spilling into the street and pedestrian-only strolling there was really great along with the pink balls hanging over the street which was a neat public art installation.

I don't know about running up Mont Royal...I was drenched from walking up it, but it was pretty hot and humid that day.

The Jardin Botanique (Botanic Garden) is really nice. During the summer when everything is blooming it is really pretty. Apparently there is some sort of latern festival at the Asian section of the garden this month so that is probably worth checking out. The leaves should be getting colorful too.

Old Montreal is fun to wander. Stop in at the Pointe a Calliere Montreal Museum of of Archaeology and History which I really liked. If you plan to do a lot of museums consider the Montreal Museum Pass (http://montrealmuseums.org/en/The_Montreal_Museums_Pass__your_cultural_passport_for_easy_access_to_38_museums.htm) They light some of the prominent buildings in Vieux Montreal up at night which can be a good trip if you can tear yourself away from the strip clubs for an evening.

There are lots of old churches if you are into that. The Mary Queen of the World Cathedral is very nice in addition to Notre Dame.

Depending on how long you plan to be there, consider the $16 3-day transit pass which can be a very good value along with the 747 bus from the airport to the city if you are flying in.

My god, you guys must be showing your age or thinking along different lines than I am, but at the top of that list of five activities should be booking a session with Pierre/Peter. Walks and sitting in churches and early morning breakfasts are all well and good, but you can do that anywhere. If you are lucky enough to find Pierre at home in Montreal (he seems to travel a lot), somehow listening to the organ practice in Notre Dame pales in comparison. But I guess that's just me.;-)

My Dear Phil, I sure we are thinking along the same lines. The only different is I never hire escorts in Montreal. Mainly because I really don’t know that scene. I have invited guest that I have met in various clubs back to my room some commercial some not. If anyone knows of an exceptional twink please message me his contact info and any info.

Well, atlantaguy, if twinks are your thing, then Pierre is definitely not for you. But don't despair - like the other posters have written, Montreal is a great town to visit. You should definitely enjoy yourself! Happy travels.

Two additional places to see and do, that I do not think have been mentioned---for varying tastes:

1. The Montreal Biodome---great place to spend a rainy, cool morning or early afternoon.

2. The Montreal Casino---for those of you who enjoy gambling---easy to get to by Metro and bus.
