In my life I do not get invited to conferences, but I do travel a bit, and I always do some "homework" before I go.

What I wonder if there's anyone here who gets invited to a conference, and their first thought is not "I wonder what escorts are available there?".

You evidently have not put on conferences for a living. Vegas, Disney World, et al. are for content-free events where companies send their surplus idiots on vacation. But when a geek goes to his manager and says "You HAVE to let me go to this conference in Youngstown," the manager will think "Yeek, it must be really important" and immediately grant approval.

I do think of available gays, but not necessarily of Escorts. It is possible to have Great sex without the aid of an escort !

In the late 1980's and early 1990's I used to get invited to conferences in Washington DC. This was a time when there were a number of fully-nude strip clubs where touching was not only allowed, it was encouraged. Fortunately, the industry I was in often had meetings and conventions in DC, so I was able to go often. Figuring out how I could avoid any obligations in the evenings so I could indulge other pursuits was often a challenge, though. The good old days, sigh.

It is usually the second thought. The first thought is "how can I get out scheduled activities with my colleagues to have some 'private' time?"

I am with Sam... it is my second or third thought... after I find a great hotel, usually not in the "block" assigned, second is getting a cheap ticket on my preferred airline, and then I do homework and try to schedule around the "free time" I might be able to arrange. :-)
