I had a quick question in regards to meetlocalmen.com that I thought a few of you fine gentleman could help me with. I saw on their site the "Escorts List for Free" link, and being the entrepeneur I am clicked on it to find out how I could be listed. I proceeded to follow all the directions on how to get "listed for free." I was rewarded for my effort with a phone conversation on how I could pay x dollars for this and xx dollars for placement here. I have more than willing to pay for effective advertising in order to improve my business and let new gentleman learn more about myself. However, I found it slightly deceptive that the link refered to "listing for free" when a "free listing" was definately on the menu. Any thoughts? Thanks! ;-)

Yep....I looked, and the link does indeed say "free listing". I guess it all boils down to just what "free listing" mean.

Oops..I meant to say that a "free listing" was definately not on the menu. Sorry for the typo!

MeetLocalMen.Com has brought me some business, probably 2nd to m4m here. Matt @ meetlocalmen is totally cool and I think he will post you out for free in one section of his site, but he will try and sell you an upgraded listing. He's an entreprenuer too.

 

Anyway, it can be a value. He also works with Hooboy on this site with some advirtising for escorts. He's super nice and is willing to help out so be cool. Have fun! Make love! Make moolah!

Fortunately, i've been lucky enough to advertise throughout the WWW and not pay a cent in advertising fees. Am i giving all the webmasters free blowjobs? Heck no... Just being extremely gracious and thankful when handed such an opportunity

 

I too have inquired at MeetLocalMen, but after asking several other escorts around the country, i've found it's not the greatest resource when it comes to actual traffic and client results. Personally, i want my advertisement to be featured on a site that's:

 

a) User-Friendly

 

b) Has clean, precise design (non-clutter)

 

c) Isn't high-pressure when it comes to sales tactics

 

 

I found that dealing with Matt was much like dealing with a very pushy car salesman. Some may call him a 'go-getter' but personally it didn't sit well with me, so i decided not to advertise with him. I just didn't like his sales approach. He's probably a great guy otherwise, so please don't misinterpret this as some cheap shot. It's definitely not... Heck, we all have to eat right?

 

I've honestly thought about writing a guide for escorts concerning advertising tactics and strategy. I am well-aware that Aaron Lawrence has a small section in his latest book on this, but it's just not comprehensive enough due to lack of advertising knowlege. I've seen so many potentially great escorts fall prey to bad clients, bad choices & bad careers due to less-than-satisfactory personal advertising. It's the single most important factor in an escort's 'bag of tricks' and unfortunately, it's also the one thing many of us don't spend enough time on. It's not the amount of money you spend on an ad, but the placement of it and the overall creativity (aka, the 'hook'). A producer has to know what he's selling, otherwise he'll confuse his target audience.

 

 

'Benjamin's Big Guide to Asshole Advertising'... Has a certain ring to it, eh?

 

I'd like to see that one on the shelf of Barnes & Noble...

It's kind of a mixed bag for me. I definitely get enough business off it to more than pay for the cost of running the ad, but I wouldn't say I get the biggest bang for the buck. I agree with most of the complaints re maneuverability problems, and for some reason the way they shrink your pics to fit on your page you run the risk of looking cross-eyed. And people can't click on the pics to enlarge them.

 

On the other hand, I like any advertising that reinforces the reviews, since that's where a huge part of my business comes from, not to mention many of the coolest clients, and I like the fact that they sponser our man Hoo. I've also found that for a lot of clients, when they hire me, it wasn't necessarily from just one source; they had seen me on a few different sites, so I tend to think that all your different advertising sources reinforce each other in the long run. And it's not like advertising is expensive. Even if Matt sells you all the different options, if you get one appointment a month off the ad you'll more than pay for it, and if any of those clients turn out to be repeat clients or regulars...you get the idea.

 

If you're really trying to keep your advertising budget as low as possible and maximize every dollar you spend on it, then no, meetlocalmen isn't necessarily the way to go. But nor would I say it's an egregious waste of money; it does more than pay for itself and HooBoy gets a little change out of it, so on balance I'm willing to keep my ad running.

NOt in my top tier or resources... or even the second tier, maybe. Don't like the user interface and like even less that, in some cases, they 'appropriate' (from other sites) escorts to fill their roster. I know this for a fact. Leaves me with the concern of how timely/accurate the inforamtion is. Nevertheless it is info that may or may not pan out.

From the client's perspective, I use MLM as #3 or #4 which ain't too bad in my opinion.

 

Sure, I'd like to enlarge the images sometimes }( and it's an awkward interface, but it's FREE to clients, relatively fast, offers 4-5 pics which many sites don't, and sometimes offers names that other sites don't. I go first to this site, then to Americanmale, then to MLM or Escorts4you. The limitations on the pics is taken care of when I email the escorts on the short list, in most cases. As someone mentioned, if I find an escort of interest, and they have a M4M review link, that makes it even handier.

 

Like any site of this nature, it is a tool for both clients and escorts. I think if I were an escort here, I'd start a new post asking clients only to rank the top 5 or more sites as to actualy useage and utility value to the client in selecting a new escort -- I think that's the key. IMHO

Jason that was Matt's hard sell you got hit with. I know several local escorts who have been verbally intimadated by him when all they wanted was the free listing. He would say you can have the spot on the front page for X dollars and the second page for X dollars. Nothing wrong with trying to make money, just the way he goes about it. Even knowing this, I never use the site. There are too many outdated ads on there and I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out who might still be escorting. I find Rent Boy the best followed by American Male and Male Prime. Good luck to you.

I advertised for a while on Meet Local Men, and I liked dealing with Matt. He always treated me professionally. I also like the fact that the site is free to prospective clients (a big plus). He also has a working relationship with this site and supports HoBoy.

 

I stopped advertising with him because he couldnt get my pictures right. I had my photographer send him several very crisp pictures of me, but for some reason or another, the pictures always came out on his site heavily pixelated. A lot of the escorts advertising on the site have a similiar problem. And for an escort, a good and clear picture is our best way to market himself.

 

Otherwise, the site has a lot of potential, if he would only get the interface right on the picture problem.

Wow...thanks guys for all the informative responses. I've decided that if meetlocalmen can't tell the truth about what they advertise (free listings), then that means I can't trust him even if I was paying for an ad. Therefore, I pass. I'm on rentboy, maleprime, americanmale and guys4rent and my phone rings off the hook. You can't ask for much else in our line of work! Thanks guys!
