Whats the Purpose? FootieToe Shoes

While I posted a previous thread about Flip-flops, the latest thing that has me puzzled is those "footie toe shoes", the ones that simulate bare feet....

 

I see people running around the city streets looking like they have alien feet in these shoes with 5 toe sockets. I can see them in a sports event or competition, but as street wear ?

 

Plus, they are so flat, they hardly look comfortable...

 

Utility, Fad or fashion ??? Insight is appreciated.

I don't understand them either. But I've heard the idea is that walking around barefoot is better for the feet, and as you said, this simulates that.

 

As for me, my most comfortable shoes are Easy Spirit sandals with a 2.5" heel. They are surprisingly attractive, and I've worn them out from years of use.

I have two pairs. They're good to wear round the house or on grass. Not very good on concrete. People who run on soft surfaces say they're great. And they're low maintenance.
