Some of you might be too young to remember the old Remington shaver commercials where the guy promised that if his Remington shave did not shave you as close as a blade would, you'd get your money back. Why, he liked it so much he even bought the company!

My dad, many years ago, actually believed him and sent his razor back, never to hear another word from Remington. And I, too, have never found a razor that shaves as close as a blade. With razor blades over $3 now, it would be a good thing.

So, I was skeptical when I saw the reviews for the Panasonic ES8249. They were really good, with one reviewer declaring "this is it!" Available at a discount on Amazon, I ordered one. Once it arrived, I made sure to have some real stubble on my face, and then went at it, shaving all my nooks crannies, and newly developed wrinkles. And guess what?

My dad would have been thrilled. Finally I had it. A razor that shaves as close as a blade. No, I won't give up the blade. But it's darn nice to have a razor that can fix your face in a hurry.

I stuck with Remington for years. My puppy used to destroy my shavers when I would lock her in the bathroom so she wouldn't poop in the apartment when we were gone. She retaliated by grabbing the cord of the razor and pulling it to the floor. I would arrive home and see a destroyed razor. So I had to buy a few of them. I tried Norelco once, but it was horrible.

And shaving is different depending on your whiskers. Thicker are harder to get. Some have little hair and an electric can do the job. I met a guy in Thailand- 25 years old- who had not a single facial hair. Look at all the money he saves!

I have very soft skin... and very tough, thick wiskers....the only way I can get a close shave is with a Norelco Arcitec... I replace the blades twice a year and have a very close, clean shave. I have never used blades, except in an emergency, as they ruin my skin and I also end up with ingrown hairs... once again, nothing works for everyone! When I was in college, I grew a full beard during the winter to celebrate a Winter Carnival. That was great, but hell when it came off....

Damn, I remember those Remington commercials. Victor Kiam -- "I liked the shaver so much I bought the company". Why in the world his name stuck with me I don't know.

Actually I need to get a good electric shaver for my son. 19 years old and shaved exactly once in his life. With only a few straggly chin hairs. Sounds like one of the Panasonics may be a good choice.

I also think female shaving cream is better than men shaving cream. I ave tried around 6 brands and found skintimate skin therapy for sensitive skin to be the best

What About Pain?

I remember in college having a Norelco triple head razor. It never cut that close, and my face used to feel really sore after using it. How does the Panasonic make your face feel? Does your skin have to get used to it?

The Panasonic was a pleasure to use from the beginning. No after affect at all...just a smoother face.

And that's the only place I have tried it!
