I've been thinking of getting a 7" (or possibly an 8.9") tablet. I have a Windows 7 10" tablet (ViewSonic ViewPad 10pro) which is more than fine for work on the road, but a little clunky for personal use. So there's the Kindle Fire, at a ridiculously low price ($200) from Amazon, and the top of the rest of them at the moment seems to be the Samsung Galaxy 7.0 plus 16 GB ($350 more or less). So I go to Amazon to check it (7.0 16 GB) out and Lo And Behold ... somehow they can't deliver it for a few weeks. They will sell the 32 GB at a higher price. Then I check out the Samsung Galaxy 8.9 16 GB ... and ... Lo And Behold ... Amazon isn't selling it at the moment because of "delivery problems" or some such nonsense.

I wonder if this means that the Samsung Galaxies are the real competition for the Kindle Fire, and Amazon is squeezing them. Is this a foretaste of the future? Amazon (and others, no doubt) controlling a huge % of the market and then controlling access to products through "unavailability" when they aren't the ones the retailer wants to push? Nothing new there, I suppose, except that there aren't as many retail choices as there used to be.

Interesting. I checked Best Buy online and they seem to have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 (16 GB) available for shipping. it seems to be available in some local stores but not others. For the 8.9, they only have the 32 GB model.

Could also be Samsung squeezing the supply chain to steer people into BestBuy. Who knows?

It certainly isn't new.

I did wonder if maybe they (Samsung) are b eing un-cooperative with the competition. Or maybe the problem is Amazon over-extending itself. I ordered a Christmas gift from them (some bedroom slippers) in December that they were unable to supply before Christmas, and today they finally admitted that they are not going to be able to provide them at all.
