In another thread, maxwellissmart says:

This is one of those times where I think "Rates Vary" is helpful and implies that he offers tiers of service.

I didn't want to hijack that other thread, but to pose a related question:

Escorts (and masseurs) often include a disclaimer on their website stating that "Rates are for time only, and whatever happens is between two consenting adults." Clearly this is intended to skirt the legal issues surrounding prostitution, but it seems to me that this idea and the variable rates are somewhat contradictory. After all, if the client is theoretically paying only for time, then an hour is an hour.

For me, an a la carte menu of services and rates destroys a bit of the illusion that the service provider is enjoying the experience, and therefore puts a damper on my enjoyment. When they say, it'll cost $xx extra if you want to yyy, it sends me the message that they don't enjoy yyy, and I'm paying $xx for the inconvenience of it.

So, what do y'all think of this kind of pricing?

Is it just a ploy to make their advertised rates look low while making big money on up charges?

Do you pay for the extras, or just go with the basic rate?

Not sure with escorts but with massage it can mean a number of things. some massage therapist charge more for deep tissue than swedish i do not. some charge for hot stones i do not.. facial treatments hair removal could all fall into a increase rate. I charge more for sensual massage than therapeutic only as do most. I charge for a prostate massage. it requires disposable gloves, sanitizing a prostate massager that I use plus extra time involved.

I am not sure corndog about this illusion you speak of. For me there is no illusion. I am very picky and careful whom I choose. They usually come with great reviews and somewhere in their reviews must be the impression from other clients that the escort enjoys it on some level also. I believe that a lot of these guys do. In the end however, it is a business to them, they are not your bf or your lover, I have no illusion about that. I hope they have fun, but I will pay for any upcharge that makes the experience more enjoyable for me.

When hiring masseurs, sometimes if you want things to go further, then yes I will pay for upcharges, if in fact there are any. Sometimes not, but when hiring escorts, I have never really been hit for upcharges. Be clear in what you want and expect for your money and no one will be disappointed. If you want the session to include something that is not on the menu and they want additional money, then you can say upfront whether or not it is a thumbs up or thumbs down. When you listen to the members here, the recurring theme is always "communication is key" I am leaving shortly for a hire, we have had numerous emails back and forth over the last week or so. He and I are very clear on what I want to occur. I doubt that there will be any surprises...and certainly no upcharges. Good luck to you.

As BVB, I am also very picky. Prior to meeting I have already checked out their ads, reviews, and communicated with them very up front about all issues relating to our meeting. I have never had an incident of "upcharges" or whatever you want to call them. Frankly, this should be thoroughly discussed prior to meeting to elimate one more issue that could affect your mutually enjoyable time together.
