For years this time of year was hard for me. My mother died the day before Thanksgiving and the same day the gravediggers went on strike. Who knew they even had a union? Anyway, it was not until Christmas eve that we could bury her. It had always ruined these two holidays for me. We didn't get along that well, but I was her primary care giver during the last 5 years of he life. Anyway, about 10 years ago, I had a conversion experience,(yes, of the religious kind) and began to work in a homeless ministry. As time went on and I got more involved, I started a homeless shelter and suddenly these holidays (Thanskgiving and Christmas) were the most wonderful days again. This year as you are all probably tired of hearing by now, depression has been a non-stop battle and I have had to give up these outreaches. As a result I have not felt the warmth as in holidays past. I wanted to say that in the past few weeks, some of the men on this site have reached out to me and I have made some new friends that have really helped the loneliness associated with these holidays. I wanted to thank those men and wish them and everyone a warm, happy, and people filled Holiday season. Anybody else have trouble during this time of year?

Hey Jackhammer,

Please hang in there and keep battling that depression, as there is definitely a "light at the end of the tunnel", as I can attest from my own personal experience. I know it can sometimes be hard to believe, but as long as you keep "fighting for you", the day will come when you reailize that you deserve to treat yourself as well as you treat others (right now, I get the feeling that you are saying to yourself "easier said than done" as I used to say the same thing).

I, for one, am never "tired" of hearing from you as your posts are always enjoyable and full of compassion for others (your work with the homeless is truly a testament of your compassion) and indicate to me that you are a caring, beautiful person.

This time of the year was always the most depressing to me as I was usually alone (I am again this year, but that is "way cool"), until I came to the realization that I "like me" and that I do not "need someone else" to validate that feeling amd that I am a "good person who is worth knowing". I have found that with this realization, I project a much more positive, self-confident attitude that has made it much easier for me to meet and interact with nice guys (both escorts and non-escorts).

I most sincerely wish you the merriest Christmas and the happiest New Year that will bring you the realization that you are a wonderful person!

OK, first of all there is no light at the end of my tunnel...hehe...so I hope you like dark warm places.

Jackhammer daddy. Why do you have to live so far. VAHawk...fly Jack out to Detroit and you cum too...Ill celebrate the Holidays with you guys. I LOVE the Holidays...I always have...even through the turmoil that sometimes surrounds it.

Remember:

Thanksgiving....is a day to give thanks for all we have.

Christmas...to realize the one person can make a difference.

New Years...to start off fresh and with new or renewed resolutions.

There are other holidays...Im just not adept at what they might mean.

There is a syndrome associated with winters...what's it called? Lots of people suffer from it...Its because of the shorter days and the cold. Just come over...Ill break out the eggnog or hot apple cider...or do you prefer cocoa....and I dont mean that drag queen from LIPS restaurant.

Keep on posting, Jack. I like hearing from you -- even if you are a bit liberal for my tastes ;-) And I certainly admire your work with the homeless. Hopefully you can get back to that some day -- I'm sure it was very rewarding.

I have to say that I love the holiday season -- I think it has something to do with spending lots of money, which always makes me feel better (too bad I don't have more money so that I can shop year-round). What gets me about this time of year is how early it gets dark -- that little thing depresses the hell out of me.

Jim......it's called SAD (seasonal affective disorder). The cold of winter here in Chicago doesn't bother me but the shorter days of do. I just love sunlight and there is nothing better than to be out all night and go to the Belmont Rocks on Lake Michigan and watch the sunrise. Well at least the days start to get longer again in less than 2 weeks.
