I think those were Hodges' words, not Ms Bryant's.

And yeah, I can see how anyone so vilified (right or wrong, she was vilified) would be hyper-sensitive to someone making a BioPic of their life. I can comprehend any human being's apprehension with meeting the person who might be about to re-open the scars of one's life. So, yes, I can see a positive in Mr. Hodges' jokingly saying "everyone needs a gay best friend" in response to what was apparently a positive, maybe even uplifting meeting.

I do not believe that because one has differing views, strongly held, that they should be re-vilified as being sub-human (a crocodile) or less than any other person. They should be viewed as simply having different views.

Ms Bryant's past political actions were POLITICAL ACTIONS. Don't we, too, want these rights of free speech?

Is there really that much to this Woman to write a Movie about her? Her "Dislike and Disdain" of Gays all of a sudden has changed? Doubt it very much...;)

Bryant rightfully has faded into History and should stay there!

That's the smartest thing you've posted here in years. There is a special spot in hell reserved for Anita Bryant.

I agree with BG that there's not enough to make a movie. For most of America she is barely a blip that history won't even notice. What she represents to me is the most pernicious form of bigotry, the kind that cloaks itself in sweetness and hides behind morality. From Othello: “When devils will the blackest sins put on, they do suggest at first with heavenly shows….” Bryant has faded, the bigotry is alive and kicking.

From Wikipedia...

"A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs."

Doesn't sound all that bad when describing someone whose beliefs mirror mine, yet PERNICIOUS AS HELL to describe those who disagree with me!:)
