Currently playing on 42nd Street, I looked forward to this because I have had good luck with Keen Company, and like Lanford Wilson as a playwright. This autobiographical early work was a disappointment. Although the cast and production were fine, the play itself was not very engaging. Told with continual interruption of the fourth wall, it followed young Alan who at 17 is going to live with his father whom he hasn't seen since he was 5. His new step-mom is sympathetic to her step-son, and the two foster teen girls seemed anxious to befriend him, but it rehashed and rehashed many details, that in the end didn't seem important. All in all, there was little emotional depth. Had it be 75 minutes without an intermission, it might have been more streamlined and more interesting, but At 2:20, it would be hard to recommend.
