Any updates on the Dominican Republic - places to stay, escort scene etc?

I go to the DR at least 3 or 4 times a year. My next trip is in October. IMO, the best place to stay now is the Apartahotel Roma in the Colonial Zone and right on El Conde street. It is clean, centric, secure, and has good rates (http://www.apartahotelroma.com)

with a selection of room sizes. They also allow guests free of charge, but they have to leave their IDs at the front desk which is good. The rooms also have a TV,small fridge, and security box for which other hotels may charge extra. There are no "escorts" in the DR. There are hard-core hustlers and are out to get you for every dollar they can. I don't know your expertise in this area, but it is best to be careful. The going rate starts at 1,000 pesos ($26), but few will accept that. Most will ask for more, but that is up to you. Be sure you get your numbers settled before taking one of these boys up to your room. They can be found at Bar Friends, Jay Dee's and some in Cha which is a large club on the Malecon. Now, if you like gay guys, these are easily identified and are all around. Go to Cha or Esedeku Club on Mercedes Street. In Esedeku, only gays are allowed. No hustlers can go in, the sign on the door says so.... Good luck!
