I think her underlying message is something we've heard many times before - she's claiming it's a 'lifestyle', a CHOICE.

Oh yes--don't you remember--it was that day in 1st grade--we were having standardized testing where you filled in the bubbles with your #2 pencil. The twelfth question--about middle of the page--"Would you like to be happy and gay or straight" Well obviously, being no idiot at even at that young an age, I chose "happy"!!!

I’d rather listen to Martina McBride than to Barbara Streisand or Liza Minnelli. I don’t like classic Broadway musicals—those show tunes just don’t do it for me. If she is using “gay” to mean the flamboyant stereotype, I would agree with her premise that “gay” is a cultural phemonemon.

On the other hand, if she is using “gay” as a synonym of homosexual, she hasn’t measured my pupil and galvanic skin responses when I catch sight of a hot man. She has also failed to follow through on her own logic: there is no more nor no less evidence that heterosexuality is inherent than is homosexuality. In short, she’s just shot down the argument that “that’s the way God made it.” What she’s really arguing for is the right of the majority to impose its world view on the attitudes and behaviors of a minority. It seems to me we’ve been down that road. I take it she’s in favor of slavery?

as an out bisexual male - out since i was 18 - you wouldn't believe how many times i've been told "there are no such thing as 'bi men'."

and most of those comments have come from gay men...

I don't usually get involved in these types of topics simply because they super annoy me with the type of people and issues they represent. This thread I decided to examined because DaveDC had posted and I like his posts because he states his position (usually mine also) briefly, intelligently, and to the point.

First, how dare those people make such a ludicrous statement! The gay community is an ever present positive force in every aspect of AMERICA. They make this statement and contradict themselves with a slogan in the upper right hand corner stating "Speak out against Intolerance" To add fuel to the fire showing their REAL cause is a block with the word DONATE. Priorities?

Secondly, as Dave points out, it is solely the choice of the INDIVIDUAL to decide his sexual orientation. We have no right to criticise or judge another unless that individual is harming us in some way. Live and let live. I can attest to the fact that there are gentlemen in our community who are truly bisexual and take pride in this attribute. I have been fortunate to spend time with one guy and will be spending time with another professional in the near future.

Enjoy YOUR life as you choose and let others do the same.

The People for the American Way site which has the "Speak out against Intolerance" comment is only reporting the story.

I agree completely Bill. The only exception I would make to your statement is is "We have no right to criticise or judge another unless that individual is harming us OR OTHERS in some way."

I don't understand how anyone with half a brain can think there are no such people as bi-sexual men.

Man has a depresingly infinite capacity to rationalize whatever belief system or set of labels he decides on. Is 'anyone who has sex with men under any circumstances must be gay' the at the opposite end of the psectrum from 'no one is gay, it's just a lifestyle choice'?

Seeker: A succinct and precise summation of why the problem’s never going to go away.
