This is a shot in the dark. Picture a scene from hell. You're home on a very dull Saturday afternoon. No plans except to attend to some dreary family function. So, to pass the afternoon you start looking for some fun.

Now if you live in Atlanta you really need some new blood. The escorts here, while great, need to be supplemented every now and then. So you find a guy in New York, or LA, or Ft. Lauderdale, or even Topeka. You chat with him briefly and there is a connection. The next thing you know you're on Delta or Air Tran's website checking out last minute tickets.

It's as you thought. Anywhere to anywhere at the last minute is $500+. You really want to save your frequent flyer miles for something more substantive. So it looks like your date that afternoon will be Ms. Five Fingers.

All of this to ask: is there any way to get last minute airline tickets at affordable rates? Like I said, I think this is shooting in the dark; but, hey, it is a dull afternoon.

Thanks.

Check Site59.com or cheaptickets.com and priceline.com. blu

Actually, last-minute deals can be fantastic (as long as you aren't dead-set on going to one specific place). I would take advantage of them much more often if my job didn't require a minimum 6 weeks' notice for vacation. Look under the airlines' websites for last-minute deals (they're more than happy to sell those unsold tickets at deep discounts), or try hotwire or priceline. I think there's also some kind of a website like "lastminutedeals.com" or something.

If you are a member of their FF program most of the majors will send you an email on Wed or Thursday with their deals for the weekend. Delta certainly has a program, not sure whether air trans would. Disadvantage of these is they never have the specials to go where you want to go, the weekend you want to go. In these days of electronic tickets and automated FF programs, I would think you could get a free ticket with miles pretty quickly, but I've never tried. Most of the websites I deal with will not book tickets less than 24 hours before flight time.
