Thats BEACHES people :+

Anyway thinking about next years vacation and thought i would pick the collective brains of those more travelled than myself, what i want is a place with great beaches, sunshine, preferably with english as a 1st language or maybe Spanish at a stretch and not too far from the USA.

My idea of a good vacation is a couple of weeks sitting on a beach not doing a lot apart from taking in the eye candy of course :9 i'm not a look round historical buildings/museums type of guy.Any suggestions gratefully welcomed,i've though about the usual Rio,Dominican Republic etc but 'anywhere out of the way'that people have found and have enjoyed.

Lots of gorgeous beaches in the Dominican Republic. Just get a guidebook and pick your spot. Boca Chica, near the capital city, isn't the most beautiful, but it's apparently the most "festive."

Rio is hard to beat, but Brazil has about 4500 miles of coastline, with endless stunning beaches. Some standouts that come to mind include Galheta in Florianopolis (but only in the southern summer), Ilhéus and the Porto Seguro area in southern Bahia state, Salvador, Maceió, Recife, João Pessoa, Natal and Fortaleza (actually, there are also many small, "undiscovered" beaches on the northern coast in the state of Ceará). Lots of gay life in Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza.

Punta del Este (Uruguay) in January/February. (It's dead the rest of the year.)

This is the Hamptons of South America.

Cumaná and Isla Margarita in Venezuela, if you're not put off by a bit of political unrest (mainly in Caracas; not too much in resort areas).

Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia (political unrest comment above applies here, also).

Puerto Vallarta, Cancún and Acapulco in Mexico.

Sitges, just 30 minutes south of Barcelona in Spain. One of the most festive spots you can possibly visit! Also Ibiza (and neighboring Formentera island). These are summertime destinations. Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands in the wintertime. (There are LOTS of other beautiful beaches in Spain, but these are the gayest.)

Costa de Caparica, just south of Lisbon in Portugal, in the summertime. The Algarve, in the south of Portugal, also in the summer.

As you can see, you can do a different beach vacation every year from now until you join some of us in semi-advanced decrepitude! ;-) Let us know which one you decide on next!

I just spent 11 weeks in Nantucket. Incredible beaches, atmosphere, people and food. Not a stop light on the island. Had a bicycle for the whole time and the entire place was accessible. Perhaps the most relaxing place I've ever been.:)

Why do you hate the West Coast so much? I was just about to recommend Vancouver (B.C., not Washington) The city is vibrant and located amidst beautiful scenery. Active gay life AND A VERY "INTERESTING GAY NUDE BEACH" called Wreck Beach, although the name in no way reflects the appearance of the inhabitants :-)

And when you want to chill out there is ample opportunity on one of the Gulf Islands, just a hour's ferry boat ride away.

Try it, you might change your East Coast thingy :-)

Rush, check out the "Escorts South of the U.S.A" board. There are some threads there about the Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, etc. with quite a bit of detail. (Not to mention all the Brazil stuff.) If I recall correctly, one of the threads on the DR talked about a gay resort in Boca Chica. Browse the threads or use the "search" function to see what you come up with.

I agree with the poster about Zuma beach in California. Mostly, West Coast beaches are terrifically scenic but not anywhere you'd ever want to go into the freezing water without a wet suit. Zuma is an exception (at least during the summer). Black's Beach in San Diego is also a fine summer swimming beach (with nudity). Galheta beach in Florianopolis, Brazil, is very similar to Zuma in feeling and appearance (some nudity, too) except the water is warmer.

Cmon THE JERSEY SHORE is clearly where it is at!

Surely Rick Munroe can back me up on this.

:p

There's always Florida/Miami where I hear even the nuns hit the gym 7 days a week.

Thanks guys for the suggestions,

Miami i have been to a few times love the beaches and the guys but wanna try somewhere a bit further afield.

Tri,i looked up a bit of information about Sitges which looked ok and its definitely a possibility sounds good and with a large gay population also not to far from places like Barcelona which would excite the BF :-)

The West Coast ahhhh i've done LA/San Fransico etc and to be honest they didnt do anything for me i found LA to be a really false place i call it the Land of Fiction everything seems like a giant movie set i just didnt like it at all

Any more suggestions keep 'em coming...........

Rush, you definitely will like Sitges. Nice beach, with a charming little old town full of gay night spots, and it's only 30 minutes from Barcelona. Things may have changed, but when I was there a few years ago the trains between the two didn't run all night, so if you go to Barcelona and stay late you'll either have to stay over, stay up all night until the trains start running again, or splurge on a not-very-cheap taxi back to Sitges. You could rent a car (not expensive in Spain) but you hardly need one in Sitges itself, and the same is true in Barcelona, which is a very easy city to get around on foot or by public transit.

When the Olympics were held there, Barcelona opened up its own beachfront, which had previously been fairly inaccessible. So the city itself now has a pleasant beach, although not as nice as Sitges. (Which, by the way, roughly rhymes with "britches" in case you're wondering how it's pronounced. The name of the town and its pronunciation is Catalan, not Spanish.) Of course, Barcelona is one of the world's truly great cities, with a terrific gay scene of its own, and worth as much time as you want to spend there. You won't ever run out of things to do! If you need a place to stay in Barcelona, try the very convenient, inexpensive and ultra-gay-friendly Hotel California on calle Raurich in the fascinating old city (the Gothic Quarter). It's just a couple of blocks off the Ramblas (the boulevard that runs through the heart of downtown) and within walking distance to the seafront or the Plaça de Catalunya, which is kind of the Times Square of Barcelona, so it's very well located. You and the BF will definitely enjoy yourselves in Barcelona and Sitges.

hi from France

I've been many times to Miami and south beach but i found it was not clean all the time like tar hidden in the sand, broken glasses : beware where u walk...however the guys are HOT at the gay beach

For those who travel pretty far like Asia, u gotta try a small japanese island very south of Japan called Miyako : i think it was my preferate beaches for now : very clean and clear water and clean sand too : of course in summer it's very warm this island is very small and very quiet : so if you want calm and relax, that's the place !

I've been to California beaches too but what i remember that the ocean was very cold !!!

Varadero in Cuba seems very nice but never been there so hope to soon..

happy halloween.

Haven't any of you lot been to Australia? Right now you can't get a space at North Bondi because all the lads are in town for the Gaymes.

Travel north to Queensland and you could walk a mile and not see anybody on given beaches. But the most favourite of all is Broome in WA. At low tide the beach would be close to a quarter of a mile wide.

A thousand miles from any city. No pollution. Stay at the Cable Beach Resort and enjoy the eye candy. And there is nothing more stunning then sipping on a double frozen Margarita while watching the sun set over the Indian ocean. You have to go in June as it is too bloody hot in summer. Remember, we go the other way. Cheers!

I second Swallow's comments about Australia and Bondi Beach in Sydney. I am a beach and boi freak and Bondi has the most beautiful eye candy I have ever seen and unlike the states, it is the norm there for the bois to be in speedos instead of the long surfer-style suits. There are guys lying on the beach in their bulging bikinis massaging each other's love muscles. Damn - I've talked myself into a return trip. :-)
