It was stated in a recent news story that the following words have outlived their usefulness and we should move on to new words:

"Awesome," "Amazing," and "Ridiculous"

Bearing that in mind...THREE new words will need to replace the old words! What should those new words be?

p.s. Actually I could think of escort's names that could be used as the new definitions of "awesome", "amazing" and "ridiculous" but that response is somewhat anticipated I believe so I'll refrain.

As is happening in the English language, vocabulary is shrinking at an alarming rate....rather that remove these words, perhaps a more modern twist is in order:

Awezingculous......

meaning will be derived from context....what could be easier. Also gives plenty of room for sarcasm...

Awesome post, gcursor. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It's amazing to me and seems somewhat ridiculous to remove these very heavy words from our vocabulary...they convey so much meaning without meaning anything with so little effort.

Doit's response reminds me of the episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy hires an English professor to make sure that perfect English is spoken when their baby is born. The professor states, "There are two words that I never want you to use. One is lousy and the other one is swell." As Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel wait to be told the two words... One of them asks, "Well, tell us the lousy one first!" Of course in due time Lucy ends up saying, "That's a swell way to get off to a lousy start!"

As for the English language today... from what I hear "out in the field" there is little hope...

I can't improve on gp0560's suggestions----they are not only Astounding, but Competent and anything I would add would be a Fucking train wreck.

Could we add the useless word actually to the list of words to be banished?? For some reason it has crept into the speech pattern of many people, and I suspect they are not aware they are using it, over and over and over, actually.

One of my former boyfriends used to get upset with me because I used irregardless so much in conversation. One day, he brought a dictionary over and said "Show me" and I said, "Show you what?". He said "Show me where the word IRREGARDLESS is in the dictionary. It's a made-up word" So I started making a conscious effort and rarely use it now.....

I asked my boyfriend to give up saying "EEEK!!" at the time as a result of me giving up irregardless. He used to use that in exclamations of joy, surprise, etc etc. Finally I told him that he had to go on a "3 EEK!! a day" limit. Did it work? Of course not..we didn't change for each other..I loved him..he loved me..that's what the point of the story was
