Sorry, couldn't resist. My bad. :o

I've been searching high-and-low through the vast quantities of books I've stashed in storage trying to locate a rom-com that was about two gay escorts falling-in-and-out-of-love (with each other) whilst working for an escort agency on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia.

I was staying at that location in Philly (it's typical, 'Rittenhouse Square' I remember, but not the title! :o ) when the book came out, and it became an overnight sensation amongst the locals, who believed that it was based on fact with the identities of the various characters merely thinly-veiled. I recall it had everything from Madams to Mafia, rampant consumerism, drink-and-drug abuse, funny one-liners and, most importantly, a happy ending.

It was also the first novel I'd ever read that included explicit gay sex!

I'm wondering if there's a Member out there who might remember the title? If not, would it be too much to ask if someone who has a relationship with Premier would contact them and ask if they know? I'd do this myself, but if they've never heard of it, they might think I'm researching an expose. I wouldn't want to be responsible for inducing paranoia!

Thanks in advance. :D

Best.

I have tried Phlmuscle but with no success. I'm am talking about 30 years ago, pre-internet and the book may well have been vanity published.

A Daddy's boy is probably my last hope! :p

Ok...i've spent a good few hours searching for this book but can't find it yet. do I get any more hints...or do I have them all? was it before 1980? 1970?

Hey Gcursor, First Love, I'll go and find an old passport. It'll have the dated stamp in it as I mounted Philly... but I remember this boy was still hot, so must have been at least 30 years ago! Oh, by the way, a HUGE "thank-you", even at my age, it's still good to know that real men do favours!

I arrived PHL, spring of 1981. If that helps...???

Gcursor, again... "THANK-YOU!"... it's just that suddenly I remembered a long, hot, crazy, South Philly summer...!! I'm currently at a place in my life, where I yearn to relive it. Sad, huh? :)

Failure

Rich:

I've looked for this book for the past few days using every technique I can on the internet. i haven't come up with anything from any of the sites that I've looked at. in other words, i have failed I admit my failures without excuses and so I freely admit them when they happen. I could make a nice lie to tell you about why I failed but I don't like doing it.....as i own my failures

can you pm me anything else that you might be able to think of regarding this book? I'll keep looking for you...

Gcursor

Rich I sent you a pm with some additional questions

please advise.

thanks,

gcursor

You haven't failed, Gcusor, the only thing failing around here is my memory. :(

I'd like to offer up a HUGE 'thank-you' to all those Honorable Members who've taken the time-and-trouble to try and help me out with this. I'm gob-smacked by the efforts taken on my behalf and by the advice and consideration I've received, both publicly on the Board and via PM's and email.

I guess I'll take consolation in recalling the story through rose-tinted glasses, and that after 30-odd-years it's probably better left that way. :)

Thanks again.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Gcursor, I'm so grateful for all your efforts, which were above-and-beyond anything anyone could expect. Good Ol Boy, appreciate the time you took out to contact Premier on my behalf, and you were so close with 'College Professor'! And to the Honourable Member (requesting anonymity, why?!) who found the book, and gently chided me for ignoring the obvious, my heartfelt thanks. :D

You're all sensational, guys, really!

Rich,

I don't know where you live, but there is a wonderful gay bookstore in Philadelphia that has some "out of print" books. Sorry, I can't remember the name for sure, but it may be "Giovanni's Books" or something similar. I do think they have a web site and may be able to help you. Also, some of the bookstores in large cities specialize in exotic, out of print, and self published books. Some of them may be able to help you as well. Good luck... I can still remember some of the paperback novels that I read when I first realized my interests in men... they were sizzling, but not much of a story line. Good luck with your search.

Hey DD,

I'm sorry, it wasn't obvious from my previous post that an Honourable Member had actually found the book for me. Thanks for the heads-up, it'll save me another spanking from Gcursor, for yet another incomprehensible post!

Great minds obviously think alike, the Honourable Member who actually found the book, asked me what I would do if I wasn't tied to the internet. The answer, is of course, as you pointed out, I would go to a knowledgeable, specialist bookshop. He had contacted Gay's the Word, who were delighted to tell him not only the title, but the author and the publisher.

I guess I've succumbed, like many others, to the mighty Amazon. Only a few short years ago, a book seller or a librarian would have been my first port-of-call. :o

I'll confess that the only time I've committed theft was to lift top-shelf magazines, such as Him and Gold here in the UK. Well... I was all of fourteen or fifteen years of age, and therefore under-age and anyway, I would have been far too embarrassed to attempt to buy! It was a relief to graduate to pulp fiction.

Thanks again, DD, I'll be PM'ing you shortly.

Apologies Seeker630, my bad. :o

There are some used copies available on Amazon, priced between 1¢ and $999, does anyone know what that is about?

I'm contacting the Members who've been helping with my treasure hunt, in case they're interested in acquiring their own copies. After I hear back, I'll post publicly. :)

Best.

I feel the need to defend my honour. OK, I admit that's a first, well, at least for the last couple of decades...! :p

I'd Try Contacting . . .

I'd Try Contacting "Giovannis Room" Gay - Non-Adult Bookstore in Philadelphia located at 12th and Pine in the

Gayborhood.

The owner is a local and the store has been open for more than 30yrs. Even if it was written by a local author and

published by a vanity press - he would most likely be familiar with the book.

Good Hunting!

Diverdan, (DD) PM'd me to request a ten day grace period before I published the name of this summer's retro-bonk-buster. :(

I have, of course, naturally acceded. :p

I wanted to thank you very much Rich for the book that you sent me. The gift-wrapping was very nice and the SAYING inside on the card touched me the most. People come on the board and may complain about what happened last week or they may talk about the latest political news story or maybe talk about which Star Trek character they want to have sex with...BUT your card encapsulated what is most important of all and what we should all strive to remember.

Thanks,

Gcursor

Just to say another thank you to everyone who helped me rediscover Tory's (William Snyder) and I trust you've all received a copy by now (if not, let me know). An especial thanks to Good ol'Boy, who generously agreed to deliver an additional copy to Premier, so they could catch up on their ancestry!

Thanks again Guys, you ROCK! :D

Captain Kirk, as portrayed by Chris Pine.
