Saw this last night, the first night of previews. I thought it was brilliant, devastating and heart-wrenching. Wonderfully staged, beautiful acting and the horses were astounding. Best thing I've seen all year!

It's going to be a great Broadway season.

Yes, I saw the London production last year. One of the best plays I have seen in many years. I highly recommend this show. It will be a big hit at Lincoln Center. Movie, by Steven Spielberg, comes out at the end of 2011.

I never heard of War Horse until you told me about it. Thanks for that. I can't help thinking the movie will be a disappointment because it will use real horses.

Saw "War Horse" last night. Had previously seen it in the West End last April. Still a terrific show! Highly recommended!!!

Adding my rave. This is a devastating and empowering evening of theater. Tiny spoiler: LOTS of live gunshots on stage. (It is called WAR Horse, after all.) Scheduled now to run through June, I cannot imagine it won't extend, but just in case, gentlemen, I suggest you get your tickets now. Playbill.com has a coupon for $95 tickets through April 24th.

Handspring Puppet Company

 

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone planning to attend so decide for yourself if you want to watch, but this is really quite a great video of the development of the horse puppet from the Handspring Puppet Company of South Africa. It's 18 min. long, but the presentation by the two developers---long-term collaborators and lovers---is quite charming.

And the horse, wow, how much more realistic can you get?(without poop to scoop up afterward!). I'm sure it's even more impressive with lighting and other action on stage.
