One reason why I don't really care for fancy 'upscale' hotels is because they always want to swipe and hold money on your card. And when you stay in them enough its easy for them to fuck something up.

Well, the last place I was at was an Aloft brand hotel. My 1st time staying with one of their chains. They held $50 for my account. When I checked out, they couldn't figure out how to credit it back to my account so just gave me cash back.

A little longer than a week later the $50 that was held on my account dropped off, putting an extra $50 in the account. Being that it was after hours when I noticed what happened, I couldn't reach anyone regarding it. Well, 2 days later they make 2 debits from my account...both for $50. They basically took back the money that I gave for incidentals...which was given to me in cash the day I checked out

So needless to say I am fuming over there mistake, and here it is fucking Friday 2 minutes before 5 pm and nothing has been solved. They've got my weekend spending money tied up for no reason and haven't done nothing, so now i have to pull from my savings account to pick up the slack for their bullshit.

So the next time a hotel asks for my card, I'm going to make a HUGE fuss about it if they won't accept cash. Some hotels try to refuse to check you in without letting them hold funds on a card. I'll make it known that if they fuck up, I'm coming after THEM personally.

Aloft is a brand of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Inc. which also operates Westin, Sheraton, "W" Hotels, Le Meridien, St. Regis, etc. I have enjoyed my stays at most Starwood properties but anytime you travel, there will be occasional wrinkles like this one. I'm sure it is an error the hotel will correct soon. Have you considered maintaining more than $50 in your checking account? Imho, as much as you travel that small amount seems to be cutting it awfully close.
