I guess you noticed the big changes that made rentboy in 2010!

What do you explain that?

Natural evolution or were caught?

I have my own theory, and will share with you after hear your suggestions.

I am not sure that "improving" is the term I would use. It has definitely changed, and some features I like and others not so well. But as in all things technical, it's hard to please everyone. Some of the glitches that they had when many of the changes were first introduced seem to have gotten worked out, but somethings still seem to be sporadic, especially when going from one "page" to another, or when switching from a detailed description back to the original page where that person first appeared. I look forward to reading comments from others too.

Somehow the "search" options do not work in synch. I like to search for guys with specific height - some escorts are not specific, and so they disappear from the search. I like to specify a lanuage background - you can do that in one place, not in another. It seems that in merging the old with the new, a lot of things were not thought out clearly. Then there is the "issue" of verifying the photos....

The site is still slow as molasses to navigate. They load it down with so many banner ads and general crap, you would think they could at least buy a little more server capacity.

Many of the banner ads (the ones that are animated, anyway) will actually be served by the advertiser, NOT directly served from Rentboy's servers. It lets the advertiser rotate content at will.

This is a part of web advertising I've never quite understood (and advertisers don't seem to get either). Why would a website owner hobble his own site at the mercy of someone else's advertising?

It's like a brick-and-mortar business requiring customers to phone three other businesses before opening the front door. If one of them is out to lunch, well, come back later.

Rentboy has also suffered slowdowns over time from their earliest days. The site will be fast as heck for a while, but grandually slow to the point of not being able to serve pages at all (at which point someone will ask about it here). Then they appear to start the cycle over. It's a classic symptom of a memory leak in their server software.

I think Rentboy sucks, and that's too bad.

Rentboy has never been truly stable but it was user-friendly and inviting before the last major design change. When it worked well in the past, it had an air of sophistication and was a fun place to browse and shop. Now, any sophistication it once had is gone. The new place is like a broke crack-addict on an LSD trip at a cheap carnival where most of the rides are broken. Customers need a lot of patience and there's a learning curve on where one must focus his eyes.

I could be cynical and suggest that whatever money isn't going to I.T. is finding its way up someone's nose. I don't know who owns the site so such a suggestion is pure speculation. Anything is possible.

Clearly, there are plenty of feature-rich sites on the internet that work perfectly (as perfect as one can expect on the web). So, obviously, Rentboy either doesn't have the resources or they are using their resources unwisely.

Why would a website owner hobble his own site at the mercy of someone else's advertising?

On paper, it may seem easier and more cost-effective to let someone else handle the ads. And lord knows many business owners are desperate for "easy" answers and solutions. Business owners who care about the details (and their customers) figure out how to make appropriate decisions.
