I just finished watching "Strapped," a new DVD drama focusing on a

very sexy male prostitute. Most readers here may like the movie,

although it won't win any academy awards. Here's a trailer:

Can others recommend their favorite serious movies (not porn) that focused on male escorts, rentboys, etc?

Apologies if this has been discussed already elsewhere.

The American Gigolo with Richard Gere is my favorite movie ever and I have lived much of that movie in real life. Also I had a major crush on River Phoenix and his campfire scene with Keanu in My Own Private Idaho is my all time favorite movie scene. Also love the line when River (whose name just happened to be , "Mikey," ) wakes up fron his narcoplectic nap and says to Keanu , "Some hustler, huh?" On a serious note: the drug problems in those early films always helped me in my choice to never use drugs.

There's movie that has shown on logo called Boy Culture, about a high end escort and his lust for his non escort roomate. A while back there was a thread (too lazy to look for it) about a blog that someone had started by a supposed high end escort in NY. Everyone poo pooed it saying that it was a hoax. There are many similarities between the movie and this blog. He only had 12 regular clients, all older, 500 an hour, and it was called something like Confessions of a New York rent boy. In the movie, the protagonist quits escorting and writes a book called "Confessions of X." Has got to be the same author. It's not a bad movie and the lead guy is very hot.

GREEK PETE (2009)

75 min Drama

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/8454/peteic.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1384774/

Synopsis:

Pete arrives in London with the ambition to set himself up as a rent-boy selling himself as the fantasy guy that other guys are willing to pay to have sex with. Not only is the money for an escort better in the big city, but he has bigger goals - to earn the prize of "Best Escort of the Year," an annual award given out in Los Angeles. His plans are complicated when he meets LondonboyKai, a fellow rent-boy, and starts a relationship. While Pete can easily separate his job from his love-life, Kai has a harder time sharing his supposed boyfriend with clients. Greek Pete was filmed over a year with guys working within the sex industry and the story is a fictional representation of their lives and improvised from their experiences. The process gives the film something of a documentary feel, giving us an intimate insight into Pete's life, friends, relationships, and clients - at times to an explicit extent. Semi-improvised, Greek Pete is a fictional account of a very real life.

Mysterious Skin is a wonderful movie (and also a wonderful book) that involves a small-town Kansas hustler who eventually makes his way to NYC, played by the über sexy Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I highly commend it.

Just saw the film "Boy Culture" on LOGO last evening - and remembered seeing parts of it some months ago also on Cable -- interesting work, and the guys are good looking enough to be very realistic to the roles they play.

I found this movie highly disturbing. Especially the scene where he got picked up by that rough, self-hating gay dude who bashed him bloody then raped him afterwards. I've never forgotten than scene. I'd be really scared to be an escort after seeing that movie.

I've seen many of these movies, and they are interesting to watch but I have to admit that I don't usually like the endings. They paint a bleak picture of desperation, depression, loneliness, etc. among both clients and escorts/hustlers, and the stories often don't end well---especially for the rent boy. Many of these movies were made in the 90s and early 2000s. A lot of them weren't all that great though. I researched and put together a short list of some of the ones I remembered and kinda sorta liked. This list doesn't include movies that were already mentioned by others. Some really good ones that I've seen in this genre were Canadian and French titles But I don't remember the names.

John's David Arquette

Twist 2003. Nick Stahl (the unedited version)

The Living End

Skin and Bone

Speedway Junkie

Circuit (i didn't like this one very much)

L.I.E.

Men For Sale (Canadian title) [documentary]

Body Without Soul (Czech title) [documentary]

Lucky Bastard

Sugar (Canadian title) 2004. Star: Brendan Feher

J'embrasse Pas (French title) Also called I Don't Kiss

Hustler White

Yes, unfortunately Disney doesn't make too many movies around male prostitution. :p

I finally finished it. I thought it was a well made film better than most gay type films. I think it did its job when it comes to that type of film. IMO its a film to watch once but not for repeat viewing. I found the molesting part for me to not wanting a second viewing. I watched another film few weeks ago based on recommendations a french horror film called Inside. Now I love me some horror over 75% of my collection is horror. That film did its job as well and was well made. But no repeat value due to the topic..

Thank you for the comprehensive listing! I'm trying without

success to purchase "J'embrasse Pas."

Best wishes,
