I Like to have the breath strips on-hand when I am cruising the NYC adult store glory holes. What I find that really works for me is to suck on a lemon and mint sugar free Ricola cough drop. They are great for dry throats and keep the saliva flowing. It only takes a few minutes for them to work so sometimes I just wrap them back up for later use.

Part of the solution is just to "give head"... that does not mean that you have to swallow the whole thing, in fact, most of the nerve endings are in the head and tongue action on the head and just below is what gives one the most pleasurable sensations.

 

I don't need to be deep throated to get my rocks off. In fact sometimes it feels like it's being bent too much by the curve of the throat. Other times it has felt good. But definitely, don't think it's something you need to do to be a premium cock sucker.
