I was looking through a book today in Barnes and Nobles, copyright 1991 and 1998, when I came across this line: " With a condom, anal intercourse involves virtually no risk of transmitting AIDS as long as the rubber doesn't break or slip off. HIV cannot penetrate the latex barrier."

Is this how most of you guys see the use of a condom for anal, that there is "virtually no risk" of HIV transmission when using a condom?

I don't know about others, but I believe condom use minimizes but does not eradicate or promise to prevent HIV transmission. If you even read the back of the boxes, they as well state something to this effect. First of all, it depends greatly on the type of lube you use. If you use a water based lube, you are ok. However, if you use a oil based lube, such as baby oil, you risk not only the condom ripping, but even small fissures opening up allowing transmission. Or it depends on the condom you use. If you are not careful, you cold go for one of the lambskin condoms which specifically state they are only for the prevention of pregnancy but are not meant to protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Hence, one should only buy latex. Anyway, condoms are def. a great way to protect yourself, and and when used properly, will help you to prevent HIV, but they are not infallible. the only way would be the most unattainable form of protection: abstinence...and who the hell wants that!!?? hehehehe
